28,000 mile service - ChristoT - 24-06-13 Hi all, My 28,000 mile service is peeking at me just around the corner (another thousand miles, if that), and I was wondering are there any things to look out for in particular, any hidden nasties? Also, how much should I expect to pay to get my local garage to do it? Thanks! Re: 28,000 mile service - red98 - 24-06-13 christo....your always telling us your a poor student who cant afford to eat :\ .......do it yourself, loads of help on here ![]() Re: 28,000 mile service - ChristoT - 24-06-13 (24-06-13, 08:44 AM)red98 link Wrote: christo....your always telling us your a poor student who cant afford to eat :\ .......do it yourself, loads of help on here I would, but for the fact that I have not a clue as to how to do the valve clearences - and a nasty habit of screwing things up badly when I'm not sure what I'm doing. As the old joke says: if it's not broken, fix it till it is! [/quote] at 28,000 there probs alright, its easy to check, bit harder to adjust but i think there be ok....you`ve had the plugs changed and balanced the carbs..so just do a mini service ,oil, filter, air filter, fuel filter check chain and a damn good clean.....the money saved can be spent on tea for all the london foccers at the next meet ![]() Re: 28,000 mile service - Exupnut - 24-06-13 Amen red98. 1 sugar fer me. Re: 28,000 mile service - Fazerider - 24-06-13 Yes, if you don't want to do it yourself and money's tight just ignore the valves. In my experience the clearances are extremely stable... I measured them religiously every 28,000 miles on my first engine and they were still fine when I finally junked the engine at 115,000. Regular oil changes are the most important thing. Re: 28,000 mile service - Lawrence - 24-06-13 There's a 28k service?!? Re: 28,000 mile service - ChristoT - 24-06-13 Thanks all, mini service it'll be. Need to get new tyres soon too... :'( Re: 28,000 mile service - Dave48 - 24-06-13 You could always switch to a 6000 mile service interval as recommended for the later FZS 600. As said main thing is engine oil & filter & safety checks-tyres,brakes, fasteners. Little & often is a good recipe-do jobs as & when you can rather than try & cram the entire schedule into a day :lol Re: 28,000 mile service - Punkstig - 24-06-13 (24-06-13, 10:18 AM)Fazerider link Wrote: Yes, if you don't want to do it yourself and money's tight just ignore the valves. I never did my valve clearances either and ditched that bike at 125,000 miles! (Although by this time I needed to hold the throttle full on to start her, but you get the point- your clearances will be fine!) |
