assembling new clutch
#1
Hi guys , i'm after some help again  :rolleyes  , i have just bought a new clutch complete (steels & friction plates) as my old one was dragging alot and appeared to be a mix and match affair (previous owners ? ) now the problem i have is because someone else has been in there before me i do not know if the 2 small rings ( clutch boss spring and seat )are facing the correct way as they are slightly curved also which way around do the steels face as they have one face that is very slightly rounded , it does not show on the parts manual and i have no Haynes , any help gratefully accepted  Smile
cheers Jeff

Hi bud, if you have a look at the downloads section at the top of the page there should be a pdf of the workshop manual for your bike.

Doh.

To my eye it looks from the diagrams on 5-38 and 5-39 that they should sit like ))))| but I'm famous for foccin' things up when it comes to spannering.
Hence the DIY Disaster title...

On my manual it shows the flat spring plate on the hub first, with the concave shaped one on next, with the inner edge touching that one, sort of like this / , does that make sense, i could probably send you a page from the manual? see if i can give it a go.. :lol

thanks for helping on this , your description does make sense all except the first spring washer which is not flat it also has a slight concave shape , which is where the problem starts , do they sit like spoons or opposing each other and if so which way round do they oppose each other if you know what i mean  :o
cheers guys

looking in the haynes manual there is an spring seat, also called a anti judder spring it says fit the spring so that the outer edge is raised off the seat if that makes sense,it does not show how the spring seat fits in the clutch though

yeah that helps loads thanks , but from the description the first spring plate the outer should be facing away from the seat the diagram does not show that ( No.1 ) but the second plate does (No.2 ). a little confusing or am i being dull ?

Always bear in mind that someone may have dismantled the clutch before and put the wrong part back, had this recently on my brothers ex-ebay cheap cb500, it would'nt set off without judder and jerk, so pulled it to bits, it has similar parts to the fazer and both were as part no 2! put the right bits back and its now fine..  If anything, i would put the washers back in with no1 facing no 2 ..  good luck!! :rolleyes

yeah i think this is what has happened to mine which is why i'd like to get it right this time as the new clutch cost me £142  :\  , will try putting No1 facing same way as No2 (spoons) and give it a go
