530XV chain spec / rivet diameter - MC680x0 - 25-08-14 Found this the other day and used it when fitting my "DID 530VXHeavy Duty" chain... but the rivet size diameter on any of the chain pin rivets is around 5.7mm so I've riveted mine at 5.8mm , but the chart suggests the pins are 5.24 in diameter; so I just wondering whether the extra 0.56mm is sufficient to keep this chain together !! I'm using a vernier calliper with three decimal place resolution so quite accurate. Re: 530XV chain spec / rivet diameter - darrsi - 26-08-14 You just fitted your own chain, but are having trouble doing the wheel nut up? :tape Did you change sprockets too, and if so did you check for the new size front sprocket nut? The axle nut issue you refer to is weired which is why I came to the forum for help to see if any one else had experienced this. I've changed many chains and sprockets... What do we think about the rivet size though? Is the diameter of the head of the mushroomed rivet sufficient? Re: 530XV chain spec / rivet diameter - MC680x0 - 30-08-14 Bump. Anyone? Is 5.8mm diameter of rivet sufficient to his this chain together? Re: 530XV chain spec / rivet diameter - MC680x0 - 04-09-14 I cant believe after all the advice on here about riveting my chain and not using the link provided, that no one has any view on whether the rivet diameter I have used is sufficient. Come on foccers. Re: 530XV chain spec / rivet diameter - papercutout - 05-09-14 Nobody gives a foc ![]() (the answer is 'yes, it should be fine, it's probably identical to the one I did this afternoon') Re: 530XV chain spec / rivet diameter - MC680x0 - 05-09-14 Nobody gives a a foc ... Very good. Made me smile. I was starting to think that too. :lol Cheers for your view. Helpful. ![]() Re: 530XV chain spec / rivet diameter - richfzs - 05-09-14 Surely the specs you should be riveting to, are in the packaging with the chain? Certainly have been when I've done mine Re: 530XV chain spec / rivet diameter - MC680x0 - 05-09-14 (05-09-14, 09:36 AM)richfzs link Wrote: Surely the specs you should be riveting to, are in the packaging with the chain? Re: 530XV chain spec / rivet diameter - richfzs - 05-09-14 Aye, because I can remember that from back in November last year :rollin Re: 530XV chain spec / rivet diameter - His Dudeness - 05-09-14 As a ball park figure you could measure the diameter of the hole in the link on the old chain and see how that compares to the diameter of the rivet that you've done. Two different chains. OEM and now DID530VX Re: 530XV chain spec / rivet diameter - papercutout - 05-09-14 This is what mine looks like, there's a significant difference, but it's a secure rivet. I repeated the process, flaring it further to make sure, so I'm fairly confident in it. (unless someone says otherwise) Re: 530XV chain spec / rivet diameter - MC680x0 - 05-09-14 Cheers mate. Mine don't look as wide in the middle but then again in using a 530 heavy duty. I've flared out the rivets to the same diameter as the engineered rivets on the rest of the chain I'll upload an image shortly Re: 530XV chain spec / rivet diameter - Arbie - 05-09-14 I fitted one of these chains to my Blackbird last year and according to DID's website the diameter of the flare on the soft link should fall between 0.224"-0.236". I used a decent vernier to measure mine....first one I bought was crap and gave inconsistent readings. Hope this helps. Re: 530XV chain spec / rivet diameter - Arbie - 05-09-14 Me again. Ive just looked at the conversation and the 5.8mm youve flared the link at comes in at 0.228" so you're within the range. Seems like jobs a good un fella. Re: 530XV chain spec / rivet diameter - MC680x0 - 05-09-14 Awwwh.. That's a great help mate. Honest. I binned the chain packaging a week before I fitted it... Got distracted!... So this really helps. I just riveted until it felt enough resistance , to me. Got lucky with 5.8 then. What do you think of the DID kit... My drive system feels really tight and I can feel a huge difference. Re: 530XV chain spec / rivet diameter - Arbie - 06-09-14 A new chain and sprockets always feels good. My fazers still on the original at 33000 miles but ive got a new one ready to fit. DID's do seem to last well. Btw if you have a digital vernier you may want to double check your reading in inches just to be doubly certain but im sure its fine. My vernier is a Mitutoyo 500-196-20 (Absolute Digimatic caliper 0-150mm)... ![]() Re: 530XV chain spec / rivet diameter - darrsi - 06-09-14 Most brand of chains should last a long time, but only if maintained and oiled on a regular basis. They can degrade rapidly if ignored, especially in long periods of bad weather, or if you happen to live near salty sea air. |
