What an amazing day for a ride, sometimes I am so glad I commute on the bike, it means I have the bike to hand for days like today.

Amazing weather down here in Kent, popped out at lunch and took the bike through the Wingham Bends (just outside Canterbury), I've not stopped grinning yet...warmer riding weather is coming!  Big Grin

  Repairing the plastics
Posted by: DScooby - 23-02-12, 02:04 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (4)

Hi All

Can anyone recommend somewhere fairly local (I am in Liverpool) who could take a look at the bike plastics with a view to repairing / painting?

The main problem is the front fairing (which looks like this at the moment http://dl.dropbox.com/u/63744207/DSC_0001.JPG ) but I will also need the front mudguard and L/H tail piece doing.

Cheers.

  Trak-Tech Yamaha Brake Lever H07-4902B
Posted by: bigfootpete - 23-02-12, 01:17 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (1)

I bought this Trak-tech brake lever for my FZS1k in 2009 for £50.

I only used it for a few months and then got the Brembo master cylinder which this doesn't work with this lever.

It's in excellent condition with no scratches.

£17 and it's all yours - incl postage...

  FZS ECU
Posted by: FZSPattaya - 23-02-12, 10:06 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (6)

Hi guys,
I have an FZS imported into Thailand as a used bike from Japan. As you may know, the Japanese spec bikes are limited to 105 bhp and the only way around this is to change the ECU.
It looks to be a simple enough mod and I've seen plenty of them for sale on Ebay. Does anyone on here know if the UK spec ECU is the same from 2001 to 2005? I'd rather not end up with the wrong one. From what I can find out, my bike is about a 2004 model.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
By the way, the restriction isn't the simple rubber stops in the top of the carbs as on some earlier European bikes.

  Hello

I used to visit the foc site many years ago when I first passed my test. It's fantastic to see it is still going strong Smile

Briefly, I passed my test. In 2001 and bought a new red/black/silver fzs600s, which I still own today. It was always meant as a starter bike but every time I thought about changing it, I realised how much I liked it! I mainly used it as a commuter with the occasional weekend foray into Wales or to the Lakes.

I used to park it in a free bay outside work and about a year ago a guy driving a BMW reversed out of the space opposite and knocked it over. Mechanically the damage was superficial but most of the plastics were smashed up and the net result was an 'uneconomical to repair' cat c write off. The uneconomic bit was as much down to labour costs as the repairs themselves!

Anyway, I received a cheque from the insurers and I asked for the bike back and it has been sitting in my garage ever since. I have a breakdown of the work they said is required. I have been thinking I must sort it out for the last couple of months and was pleasantly surprised when it started, with a little bit of encouragement, first time this week.

Now I am not mechanically minded (I am willing to have a go) and I am totally at a loss as to where to source the bits I need for the bike and whether, when I get them, they are capable of being fitted by an amateur like me. I was hoping this was the place to come for some help and guidance.

I'm off work today so will make myself a coffee and have a good old rummage through your forums.

Cheers.

  Suspension overhaul
Posted by: pitternator - 23-02-12, 08:29 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (8)

I have just been talking to K tech about servicing  my suspension. My K tech forks are 4 yrs old now, and the " full monty " shock 2 years old. Just lately I reckon its lost a bit of lustre, suppleness has diminished etc and the rebound adjuster on the shock wont turn properly.Being a fazer the bike still runs fine, handle sgood etc, just dont have the subtleness in damping  which I used to notice..... So its time they had some TLC.... They have quoted £100 to service the forks, and £80 the shock. Thats a full strip , rebuild , regas/oil. It will be interesting to see if there is this cartridge tube wear which maxton talk about...
It will take 3 weeks( thats their turn around time currently) , so I cant give  a quick resume of what the difference will be.

  Pads. HH or GG
Posted by: Oxygen - 22-02-12, 11:59 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (4)

hi guys,

I am fitting Hel lines on the rear this weekend and although I have about a year of life on the pads think this might be a good time to change. I do no track work and don't ride the bike too hard.

So what pads ? There is talk of a combo of  of HH on the from and GG on the rear. I don't want them to be to grabby so am thinking of GG on the rear and as the from is OK no change. Also as I have about a year or so of pad on the rear should I not bother and just run wi the HEL upgrade.

Cheers dudes

PS if you work for Enfield council they have an offer for free bike safe for employees for 3rd & 10th March.

  Just passed the test
Posted by: Jsuddaby - 22-02-12, 11:45 PM - Forum: Introduction - Replies (4)

Hi I finally got round to passing my test last week having ridden a few little bikes for 4 years, firstly a gp100 which I ran out of oil twice!! Which liked it the first time but died the second (rip my friend) then on to a cb100 which although I maintained a lot better was stolen and when returned was painted white (so badly it had the fingerprint of the thieving bastard clearly visible on the tank) wasn't too disheartened though as wouldn't go above 40 without shaking and the throttle would stick wide open whenever it got cold. So I picked up a gilera coguar cruiser, big mistake, through all the other 2 bikes short comings they were forgivable as the were both older than me at 26 and 28 years old. The gilera though was 10 years old and rotted whenever the clouds came out. The electrics were a joke with the ignition failing every other day and having to bump start whenever the temperature dropped to less than 10 degrees.
So having the test in sight I picked up a fazer 600 on a 98 plate 28000 miles and in almost perfect condition. The only fault is the front fairing is cracked from previous owners drop. Anyone who has a black 98 front going please let me know.  Big Grin  I have been riding it now for 2 weeks and I love it. It's so much fun. I'm just getting used to not having to rev the tits off it to make it move aka every other bike I've owned.  Always get home with a massive smile on my face. Happy to have stumbled on this site as it has already answered many questions so thanks for the help already
John
