So having put it off for as long as I possibly could, my trusty old Fazer has finally been promoted to shed project. A sticky gearchange, symptomatic of a bent selector fork, means I'll be ripping it right down to it's innards for all to see.

She's 50 odd thousand miles old and long overdue a good overhaul anyway. First off, drain all the fluids, remove the tank, radiator, exhaust.

No great problems, ended up filling three five litre fuel cans, radiator fluid was in excellent condition, engine oil less so! No nasties in there though. Radiator itself looks a bit grim but nothing that a good soda blast and paint won't put right.

Exhaust came off really easily, actually it fell off once I took out the footrest hanger bolt, the rear mounting point has rusted off. Amazingly, all the rust flange nuts came off super easy, not a single stud came out, broke or stripped. Brass nuts will replace them.

I know it looks terrible but it's a trick of the light. Honest! Black bikes look bad in photos if you have to use flash, in real life it looks pretty good. Here's a few more photos, this is as far as I got today.

Just one interesting thing I noticed. The EXUP valve cover came off so easily, I was convinced all my servicing had paid off. The valve itself though was as stuck as if it had been welded shut. Hey ho, soon fix that and look forwards to a few more horses next time out.

Screwd.

PS: oh and yes, I have flattened the retaining ring and loosened off the sprocket nut. In case you were wondering.

Here I am again. Still got the old Fazer. Still love it.

Though it's in a few bits as we speak, up to my elbows in gearbox...

Here it is as it was:

A mechanic quoted me 105 quid to replace the fork seals on my fzs600 which is for parts and labour. Is that in the right ballpark?

  2005 Low Mileage Blue Fazer 1000 for sale / Part-ex for FZ1s

2005 Low Mileage Blue Fazer 1000 for sale / Part-ex for FZ1s

Eyup, I’ve decided to give the FZ1s a try, so my Gen 1 is up for sale, and I thought I’d pop it on here first.

The bike is absolutely mint throughout, and has not seen any road salt, having only covered 10K miles, 4K in my ownership. It will come with 12 months MOT, and has the following extras fitted;

Ivans’ jet kit
Stainless oval road legal SIMMI  can and link pipe, with removable baffle (standard Yamaha Howitzer exhaust included)
Fabbri tinted double bubble screen (original included)
HEL front brake lines
CNC levers
CG Moto engine / frame crash protectors
20mm raised dog-bones

In terms of service items, it had a new battery last summer, last dealer service at 6K miles in April 2011, and I have since changed the oil / oil filter / spark plugs / front fork oil and cleaned and lubed the EXUP valve, all in the last two thousand miles. Pads and chain / sprockets are fine, tires are approx half worn Dunlop Roadsmarts (excellent all-rounders).

The price is £3395, and the bike is located in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. I’m looking for an FZ1s (probably regret selling the FZS, it’s my second one, but I just fancy a change) so if by chance you fancy a part-ex with mine then let me know.

Give me a call on 07949 489438, contact me through the forum or email me at mike.fletcher@arup.com.

Cheers,

Fletch

focy foc foc... what have I done

Sorry if this has been answered before, a quick search didn't throw up anything..

Right, so, dug bike out yesterday, first time in a while.
Battery had been on charge, was reading 12.5V when I whacked it on the bike.

Fired up, everything fine.

Tried all my lights everything fine. - except. When I put it to full beam or push the flash button the clocks go completely dead for a second. time/trip doesn't reset, but all idiot lights go on then off. then when riding, after indicating, they went off permanently. stopped, turned ign off and on and they came back on.

My other woe is when I went to restart it, nothing, the battery had gone down to 11 volts (tried to start straight after turning engine off, not left overnight or anything)..

Now, I'm hoping to high foc it's just a new battery is needed, because I did the reg/rec connector block over the winter, first ride since and I don't want to hear that I've foced it up..
I'm going to put the charged battery back on tomorrow and see if the battery is being charged.

(Does anyone know how to check I'm getting current from the alternator?)

sorry if some of this seems stupid, I've never done it before so want to make sure I don't go down the wrong route and spend lots of money...

Thanks for any and all replies

Tom
