A question about FZS600 engine noise.....
Posted by: packie - 10-01-13, 02:01 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (15)

My engine seems to emit noises that are more noticeable from the left hand side when you are sitting on the bike. It's noticeable on cold starts until it really warms up. When you pull in the clutch, the noise goes instantly, or it will go eventually after 20-30 mins of driving after the bike is really heated up.

It also went away after a carb sync. Unfortunatley, the carbs were out not long after the sync and the noise is back again, so the carbs may be out again after being disturbed. Anyway...question is, is this a normal trait with the FZS 600? The valves are perfect and the camchain and tensioner were replace recently. The noise was there before and after the camchain change and it doesn't sound anyway near like a camchain problem anyway. It sounds more like something going on in the clutch especially when it goes away instantly when you pull in the clutch even a little.

Your thouoghts please...............

Will a FZS 400 right side Foot Hanger fit on the 600??
Posted by: packie - 10-01-13, 01:50 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (7)

I cracked the original and I have no back brake as a result. There is a FZR 400 breaking in the same country and it would mean I won't have to go overseas (on ebay) and save on a courier which is nearly the price of the hanger itself!  :eek

Thanks in advance,
Pakie

  DIY magnetic oil filter
Posted by: Fazerider - 10-01-13, 01:24 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (5)

I'll admit this wasn't my idea, unfortunately I can't recall who suggested it... kudos to whoever it was!
Anyhow, they pointed out that the magnets you can extract from an old hard disc drive are so strong that you can stick them to the thin steel of an oil filter and enough of the field will penetrate to the other side that you could use it to help clean ferrous contaminants out of engine oil.

So I tried it last time I changed the oil.
6000 miles later I hacksawed the filter open and found that
a) a filter that's spent an hour draining still holds enough oil to make a hell of a mess.
b) the magnet had indeed collected a noticeable quantity of very fine black sludge

I think the oil flows from the outside to the inside, so I can't be sure that that wouldn't have been caught anyway... though I suspect it is fine enough to pass through the filter. Even if it would have been caught, at least it made the filter's job a bit easier.
So the magnet has gone back on the new filter. Smile

  Spark plug caps????
Posted by: Jc72 - 10-01-13, 12:10 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (7)

Just been looking at the hot poop section and there's a bit about spark plug caps, sorry if this is a stupid question but wouldn't there be ht leads? And how would you change just the ends? Would you have to cut the cable? Sorry I can't check mine cos my bike is 20 miles away

  GetGeared.co.uk £50 Gift Card for £30 (ish)
Posted by: andybesy - 09-01-13, 10:48 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

Hello Folks,

Spotted this deal and am using it to finally buy myself some soft luggage for our upcoming Euro tour. Saves me £20 hopefully.

It's a £50 GetGeared.co.uk voucher for £30 (if they all go, or £35 at present).

http://www.buyapowa.com/ref/ISbUAu

And even better if they all sell then it saves me a fiver!

PS) Hope I'm not breaking any rules posting this but some kind chap previously posted a £5 off on ebay voucher which I was able to use on some waterproofs so thought i'd return the favour.

  28000 mile service
Posted by: xrigger - 09-01-13, 07:57 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - No Replies

Hi, I own a '99 fzs 600 and for the last 3 years have enjoyed riding it. My only gripe is having to rev the nuts off it to get away from a standstill.
The bike has full service history up to 24000 mls and has now just passed 29000 mls.
Can anybody tell me what I should be doing for its 28000 mls service, I have replaced chain and sprockets and stripped and greased up the swing arm linkage. Brakes are spot on, very little play in the headstock. Engine starts and runs sweet although there is a slight tappety noise on start up. :rolleyes

What plug is recommended for a 98 FZS600 Mk1?  NGK CRE9E or CRE8E?
