Wanted - Fazer 600 (again!) - Now sorted.
Posted by: jonesthesteam - 08-08-13, 07:45 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (16)

Okay, so recently sold my lovely mint Boxeye to pay a vets bill, in the short term I dabbled with a cheap super moto thingy which whilst great fun on the back roads wasn't really up to any long trips...so that's now sold and I am looking for my next bike, preferably a Fazer. I am a bit fussy as it will only be a sunny sunday toy, so am looking for:

600
Late Boxeye or early foxeye
Low miles, under 20k
No rust / corrosion
No broken plastics
MOT
Some recent service history would be nice
Excellent condition
HPI clear

I am based in Devon but can travel within the South West within reason, I am actively looking so may not be bikeless for long so if you do have or know of anything suitable message me ASAP, I will check in regularly and update this post if sorted.

Budget is up to @£1700 (no higher)

Thanks in advance

  Problems after a lay-up 2!
Posted by: jock - 08-08-13, 06:02 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (6)

After 6 years or so without a Fazer 600 I got the one I always wanted last week, a Fox Eye 2002 in blue which up to now has only done just over 10.6k.  According to old MOTs the bike has only done 550 miles in the last 3 1/2 years an only 170 in last 17 months and 70 of that was the day after I got it.  As I got back home (luckily!) it started to sound like it was misfiring and not running well in the bottom end.
To cut a long story short it leaks petrol out of the breather pipe from between carb 1 & 2, nothing from the pipe between 3 & 4 and after about 20 or 30 seconds just refused to start and run at all.  I have changed the spark plugs, air filter and inline fuel filter and cleaned out the float bowls and jets to no avail.  The bike would start and then after 30 seconds or so would start to sound like it was missing again and start leaking petrol again from the same breather pipe.  I then checked the plugs and all are sparking but 1 & 2 were very wet.
To see if there was a problem with the fuel pump I by-passed it so the carbs were just gravity fed and hey presto the bike runs a lot better in that it no longer starts to cut out after the 30 seconds or so but still pisses out petrol again from the same pipe!
Does anyone else recognise this fault or maybe able to offer any further suggestions as to what to do next as I'm getting just a bit tee'd off with it now!

  fitting braided hoses
Posted by: dickturpin - 08-08-13, 05:49 PM - Forum: General - Replies (19)

I've been fitting braided hoses to the bike yesterday and the instructions suggested 12-24lb.ft torque for the banjos (stainless). The manual says 30Nm which isn't vastly different. what I did find and I recall the same when I fitted to my old xt600 that I had to go beyond that torque to get a seal. Have others found the same?

Renthal ultra low superbike bars fitted.

As above 758s in black. Feel real nice but have'nt been out yet.

Struggled to find some small bar ends but got some 15mm alloy MTB that I'm sure I can adapt.

What do you think?

  Bike to bike intercom?
Posted by: stevierst - 08-08-13, 11:27 AM - Forum: General - Replies (16)

I'm looking at buying a bike to bike comms device and currently doing a bit of research on it.

I'm considering either a Bluetooth type device, or a walkie talkie type radio.

Do any of you guys use them? If so, what is it and what are the pros/cons.

I'd also like it to be used as a rider/pillion too if possible but not a priority. Its so I can hear the missus complain about my last dodgy overtake Big Grin

  Chain revival??
Posted by: reillypadraig - 08-08-13, 12:02 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (5)

Just wondering if anyone have ever refurbished their chain ? The chain on my Fazer had plenty of miles left in it but the previous owner didn't take care if it and left me with a few tight links, I would rather try and get a few more miles out of her if I could before shelling out for a new chain and sprockets as neither are all that bad( I'v seen alot worse on the road,)
So far u started of with spray can chain lube, but find the owners manual better by sticking to engine oil as lube, I know I know, but hey, it works fine for me,

I did try take of swing and to remove the chain in into entirety, but the swing arm bolt got tighter and I unscrewed it so was afraid to break it,

So anyway of freeing the thought links while chain is still on bike??

When replacing the fork seals on the Fazer 1000 (carb model) yesterday I discoverd one of the internal damper rod/cartridge unit is knackered. :'(
Anyone got a one they are willing to sell

  No EXUP valve in exhaust
Posted by: alleywatson - 07-08-13, 10:39 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (7)

Yes ive bought a Fazer 1000 without a flipping exup valve, tut. I was cleaning her down and decided to do a little check / service on the exup valve i'd heard so much about, so, took off the shiney chrome cover and just saw the spindle looking back at me and two cables tied together with some wire,
i cut the wire off and pulled each one in turn hoping for the servo noise which came but after a few pulls the cable snapped, yikes, nevermind i can replace the cables easily enough, but why should I when i've got no exup valve to attach them to. So my BIG question is, where can i buy just the valve needed to release the famous mid-range punch i thought i had ? already checked ebay btw
