Whiney noise
Posted by: Dudeofrude - 14-10-20, 04:03 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (30)

Hey, I've put this in general to reach more people but my Gen 2 has suddenly developed a whiney type noise. Wasn't there this morning on the way to work but very apparent on the way home, Its audible straight away from start up and definitely coincides with the revs of the bike.
Can hear it willing revving at standstill and while driving.
Seems to be coming from the around the back of the engine above the stator area. Possibly airbox?
Doesn't seem to affect anything other than my eardrums but is definitely not normally there.
I've attached a short video clip of it, can anyone suggest where to start looking for any issues?

What a cracking Moto GP ! before Jake Dixons fall 4 laps from the end of Moto 2 we were in for the first Brit one two in the intermediate class  since 1975, after a torrid time last season Jake's clicked with the bike now and can run with the best and who knows if Sam Lowes gets a few more breaks we may even have another world champion! and that's since Danny Kents' great Moto3 campaign a few years back. What with the fabulous Johnny Rea almost certain of a SIXTH WSB title things are looking pretty good at the moment. :woot

  FZS 1000 Fazer 2004 -SOLD
Posted by: MarkW - 13-10-20, 09:52 AM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (1)

Hi all, am selling my Fazer so thought I would pop it on here, although I guess most of you are already owners! Anyway might catch someone browsing for one so here is a copy of my advert.
Photos available on eBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133542624479Price £2500After four fantastic years on this super Fazer I have decided to sell as I fancy an adventure bike. This has got to be one of the most sorted Fazers around and it has been a joy to own. A lot of money has been spent upgrading and maintaining this bike and as such it is a solid performer.
Here are the details written with all honesty and transparency.

The bike was a category D write off in 2010, minor cosmetic damage to one side after a very slow speed fall. The previous owner to me was an engineer from Glasgow, who purchased the bike and embarked on a project to make a comfortable and very capable sports bike for himself. He spent a lot of time and money upgrading her with the various bits listed below.

The bike does not come with any service history before 2016 (I have 4 years of receipts (approx £1400) from my ownership) which I know will put some people off so thought I'd add this at the top to save you reading on if that's a deal breaker for you.

I have a number of receipts from previous and current ownership, including a receipt from Maxton for just under £1000 for the suspension work carried out, and receipts for £1400 ish for a new chain and sprockets, new tyres, new front discs and pads, full valve clearance service (30900 miles) and suspension set up for my weight (75kg).
New rear tyre and oil change carried out recently at roughly 33600 miles.
The bike has a slight pulsing on the front brake, not very noticeable at all and not a safety concern (having ridden 6k with it). The ex-racing engineer who carried out all the service work on my bike spent a couple of days investigating this, stripping the entire front end down and running tests/replacing parts etc. He exhausted all avenues but could not find anything wrong with the running gear or alignment. I bought the bike at 28k and it is now on 34k, and the brakes have performed flawlessly all throughout those 6000 miles of riding and I am fully confident in it's performance going forward.
The bike is in good condition, with the usual age related marks. The odometer is currently on just over 34k.

Here is some information about the upgrades/parts:

YZF R1 4XV Forks. These were sent to Maxton to be rebuilt, re-valved and re-sprung to suit the weight of the Fazer and for sports riding and have subsequently been set up for my weight at 75kgs.

CNC Billet 'Thug' yolks made by Billet Brain (Martin CNC) to allow fitment of the USD forks and to maintain the geometry with the shorted R1 fork legs.

New taper bearings (2016)

Maxton fully adjustable rear shock absorber.

Shorted dog bones

Fazer radiator guard

DID chain and sprockets fitted 2017 (530 VX-116 Chain)

Rear tyre replaced around 600 miles ago (Bridgestone BT016) Front is in good condition.

Viper rear petal disc

Venhill braided lines

Mini indicators

New Exup valve, bushes and end plate (2016)

Renthal bars

New infill panels (2016)

Shorty levers

Ivan's carb kit fitted

Ivan's AIS removal kit also fitted

60mm bore can and link pipe

Belly pan, under tray and tail tidy

New lock set fitted due to sticky ignition (2016)

Seat professionally recovered

Wheels powder coated and new bearings fitted
All callipers stripped, cleaned, painted and fitted with new seals (2016)
New coils fitted (2016)
Lots of bolts and fasteners replaced with stainless steel ones, and some brackets removed and powder coated. (2016)

As previously stated, I purchased the bike at 28k miles and it has now covered just over 34k. I purchased the bike with no service history on the strength of the integrity and character of the previous owner and his honesty regarding the bikes history. The previous owner to him was a lady who covered most of the miles up to 26k and looked after the bike with regards to maintenance. Steven spent a lot of money upgrading the bike and was intending to keep and ride it but his love for engineering took up most of his spare time and so he sold the bike to continue with his other projects. I purchased the bike from him after a small gap in riding and covered 6k miles, spending a fair amount of money keeping the riding gear in tip top condition and servicing the bike according to the maintenance schedule.
The suspension on the Fazer 1000 is usually fairly tired after the ten year mark and the handling starts to suffer as a result. With the R1 forks and spring upgrades and Maxton rear unit, this Fazer has fantastic handling. The combination of having been 'Ivanised', fitted with the big bore pipe and the full suspension work means this Fazer is a real powerhouse yet remains comfortable for long trips.
All the running gear is in good condition and the valve clearance service has been completed just over 3k ago meaning the bike is ready to ride and wants for nothing.

The bike comes with 2 keys and 12 months MOT. The rack and tank ring are not included and I will install the original pillion hand rails.

Viewing welcome, thanks for taking a look.

  Cam chain issues
Posted by: veblar - 12-10-20, 08:46 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (1)

Hi.
I bought my A2 registered Fazer 600 a couple of months ago, and I've started to notice an increase in cam chain rattle. When I bought the bike it had some rattle when cold, but that stopped after running at tickover for a couple of minutes. Lately, at around 45 000 kilometers, the noise has been getting worse, and it's now started making a little bit of noise when warm, but I have to concentrate to hear it. Being suspicious I pulled the cam chain tensioner apart today and found that it was between 2/3rds and 3/4ths of the way out. The notches beyond the one that was engaged looked pretty dirty. Should I be getting a new cam chain soon, or is it fine for some 1000 km's more, if I stall the problem with a new tensioner? If so, do I just buy a new OEM one, or opt for a manual tensioner from a third party?

Thanks in advance,
Vebjorn

  A couple of electrics questions.
Posted by: robbo - 12-10-20, 06:59 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (16)

Having had a recent reg/rec failure, I’ve fitted a voltage display, taking the live from the side lamp wiring. My pals BMW S1000RR has a similar gadget which shows around 14.2 volts on tickover, whereas mine is around 13.3volts. What determines the voltage output to the battery. Is it the circuitry within the reg/rec, or the construction method of the stator/generator.
Secondly, on tickover, the voltmeter measurement across the battery is around 0.4/0.5 volt greater, than that shown on the display unit. If I place the unit across the battery again on tickover, the display matches the voltage that the voltmeter recorded. So the accuracy of the display unit is quite good. Is the loss due to the loom itself, plus the fact that the headlights would be on, as well as the neutral lamp and the HealTech gear indicator.
Thanks in advance folks.

Posted by: Exile71 - 10-10-20, 07:31 PM - Forum: Fazer8 / FZ8 - Replies (2)

Has anyone EPA’s had thwarted ABS light come on about 30 mins in to riding, then turn the bike off, restart and it’s fine?

Happened to me on the last two days of commuting just wondering if anyone else has had and fixed the issue?

Thanks
