Clicking sound from the rear?
« on: 11 August 2013, 10:10:45 pm »
Hi all,
So I got the dealer to fit my head bearings, while he was doing it he noticed the chain needed tightening but said that
one of the nuts was "seized".

I checked when I got home and adjusted it no problem, although I have noticed that when I got back from my ride this afternoon
that there is a clicking noise coming from the back wheel hub.

Does that sound like something I need to worry about?

Chain and sprockets are on 36,500 miles and still five marks left on the swingarm, although I guess they are due to be changed...

C&S are probably well past their best at that mileage.  Any hooking will cause clicking noises, same with tight links.  Fella on thte US forum has just broken his crankcase through having a worn chain jump the front sprocket.  I'd change it soon ...

While you're waiting for the new C&S to arrive, check the rear wheel bearings.

Another thing to look at is ....if he adjusted your chain , did he do it with you sat on the bike ?
if not it could have been made worse by the time your actually on it , I made this mistake with mine
although the clicking/knocking noise actually came from the front sprocket area .
its poss to tight now

Had a similar noise from my front sprocket, decided to try the 15T only to find the sprocket nut was only hand tight. Bike had covered 13K with a bearly tightened front sprocket, thank god the lock washer held up.

Ahhh, it was probably my fault, may have tightened the chain too much, I'll re-adjust on the w/e, thanks!

Ok, it's definitely not the chain, the clicking is coming from the hub of the back wheel... it's not constant either...

Any more thoughts?
