Swapping the exhaust how to??

Does anybody know how to change the exhaust? What process is required etc etc.

I am about to buy a end can for the bike (DanMoto) and wanted to know how I would change it.

For starters, make sure your link pipe is the same diameter hole as the new end can and the downpipes, they're not all the same, as i found out when fitting mine!
If it's the same then it's just a jubilee clip to undo and a hanging bolt, hence the term "slip on".
Some people use a high temp silicone sealant to seal the join, i would personally avoid Gun Gum though as it's horribly messy to use and dries solid, so if you want to take it off later on you need to chip it all off.

There is a jubilee clip to undo just at the end of the link pip where it joins the downpipes (just behind the right riders foot pegs) then there is the hanger to remove from the rear pillion footrest, then it's a "simpl"e case of pull it off the downpipes and "slip on" the new one onto the downpipes and do up the jubilee clip to clamp the seal so it doesn't leak.

Download the Haynes Manual in the download section. Go to chapter 4 and section 13. It gives you the procedure with photos. Self explanatory.

"Should" be that simple, a lot of people buy downpipes before the end can, but my aftermarket downpipes are a different diameter to originals (plus i don't know what make they are either for reference?).
And seeing most end cans are measured and advertised to fit original downpipes then you can have a problem like i did where the link pipe was about 5mm difference in size!
That's when a bit of improvisation kicks in!

What comes with the exhaust is:
link pipe
hanging strap
bolt with lock nut

Does anybody know about the legalities of it?

It's all about problem solving when you come up against things like that and usually it's the simple solution that's the best. have a look at the haynes manual and you'll be fine. only way to learn is to get stuck into it. there's always a solution to any problem... sometimes they can be expensive solutions but we all learn from experience and most experience comes from having to solve a problem or two. 
 
as for the legalities. it'll say if it's road legal or not somewhere on the advert. My blueflame exhaust comes with a removable baffle. If I leave it in then it's legal and if the baffle is out then it's illegal. simple    We all know which sounds the best but we also know that it's not strictly legal. having said that we are bikers and legal isn't always the side we stand on

As far as exhaust go then yes, the MOT can be the killer so Baffles are in for that for sure 
 
Although, the eu stamp is on the actual exhaust and not the baffle so you could argue the point that it's got the stamp so it's ok. This is not a good idea and the best thing to do is to keep the baffle in. So I do... most of the time. haha

Some want to see BSAU markings or the original exhaust, others don't give a monkeys!

Some police are fine and others aren't. Best to be on the safe side

My last exhaust was a Quill straight through race can, no markings and didn't have a baffle fitted at all, and used to fly through MOT's.


The SP Engineering can i have now has BSAU markings, a baffle, and at the first MOT i got an advisory for noise!!


I then pointed out the legal markings but he'd printed the MOT already so i had a year with an advisory notice on which the police could see on their system if they did an ANPR check on the bike!

My excuse to my MOT guy was that it's a sports bike it's supposed to be loud, and even with the baffle in the blueflame is wicked, he agreed and through it sailed... Back brake got an advisory though!!! cleaned out, new hel brake line and new fluid, so we'll see how it goes throught the next one!

heated grips
blue lights in the clocks
rear hugger (came with the bike when I bought it)
Delkevic 350mm Stubby (came with the bike when I bought it)

Black double bubble
clear indicator lenses (probably my favourite mod as it brightened up the whole bike)
had a carbon rear hugger when i got it,
blueflame end can,
k&n air and oil filter,
came with a belly pan on it,
I did the blue led in the dial mod the other day, love them, always hated the greeny yellow lights that were in it,
just had my wheels powder coated black.
 
Think that's about it. I have a pic or two in my introduction thread "hello from up north" check it out, it's before i put the blueflame on it though.

Ah i see, when does your liscence become unrestricted?? I waited till I could do the direct access and then did my test. Promised my dad I wouldn't get a bike till I was over 21 and had been driving a car for a few years first so I knew the rules of the road and had some experience of how traffic behaves etc.

If you have a Delkevic end can already, why switch to the Dan Moto? Admittedly I have no experience with either of these brands but I'm not sure I can see the justification.

Also, just to throw it out there, I have a Beowulf Warrior 380mm can which has BSAU markings with a removable baffle. The baffle was in twice over the 9 month period that I was using it :P And it won't be in when I refit it to my new bike. I've never actually been pulled over by the policy, be it in my cars or on my bike
