Spot light mounting position
« on: 26 August 2020, 06:14:09 pm »
Hello Foccers,  during the recent hot weather I've taken to riding the twisties at night when it's cooler.
I want to fit some spot lamps to the front of the bike to help illuminate the lanes a bit better.
So, anyone fitted them ? Where abouts and how did you wire them ?
I'm thinking to splice them into the high beam as I don't want to think about pressing a separate switch when I'm on the move.
Bike is an FZS1000 also going the same route with the MT10.
Any ideas or advice would be helpful.  :)

I have fitted various spots and lighting upgrades to a fair few of my bikes, but here are some pics of my 2005 FZS1000 that had both LED spots and LED bulbs in the main lights and a video in a dark underground car park in London. Also also my old GSF1200 that had LED spots and HID dip beam.

So where did you mount them on the FZS ?  Looks like the mudguard fixings.

Good answer! ... I was a jessing a bit .... but there are a lot out there with lights that are badly set and blinding!

Personally I actually think less is more at night and let your night vision look into the periphery of you beam. After 40yrs of riding I still don't feel the need to fit them to either of my bikes but each to their own.

No, I mounted them to the brake hose clamp lugs, with a spacer and a nylock nut on the backside.

Hi Dazza,
Saw this Fazer at The Haven bike night a few weeks back. Spots mounted on the frame down tubes.

I’ve seen some mounted on the radiator but I’d worry that it would cause damage if dropped. The other concern is having them too close to the indicators which might over power them and not be seen well enough.

I just mounted the spotlight with the braket it came with to the fork with a M6 bolt, spacer and nylock nut. The potlights were from -

How did you wire them up?
Straight into the sidelight circuit, so I was able to turn them off for the MOT.

Into the subloom that runs behind the front cowling and under the headlight etc. But from all the questions, its sounds like your not that well equinted with electronics & electrical engineering. So in this instance I suggest just buying the spots and getting a mechanic or better a motorcycle alarm tech to fit the lights for you. Or if your close enough to Hertfordshire I will fit them for you.

Spots mounted on the frame down tubes.
A potential issue with this is thats lower down, than mine were. So its possible they will collect more road spray/crap.

:lol  All those little lanes take on a whole new appearance at night mate. Must meet up soon.
Haven't got round to fitting them to the Fazer yet but have the MT10.
I've angled them so they light up round the corne when I'm cranked over.
Ended up buying 4 X 400W spot and flood lamps and they seem to do the job nicely.
