The original downpipes for 98 & 03 share the same part number & same price for new ones, £1,204.68 if Yamaha had later made them in stainless the price would have been nearly half the price of the bike new.  Cheesy

Exhaust angle lowered to accommodate longer pillion pegs?

Deep Reddish Yellow Cocktail wasn't available in the u.k in 98 only red or black, when I bought mine in 98 a customer paid the dealer to have one sprayed yellow.

A magnet sticks to my down pipes.
That would confirm that they're plain steel under the paint wouldn't it?.

Some of these websites are bad for that.
There's a couple that don't give the choice of it being black, and another site doesn't list it as a 2000 SP model which it blatantly is, if i use the reg number. Says it's a 98 i think.

My 03 fazer has stainless downpipes painted black from new. Think it was only last year 03 they did this

Thats right about the lower grade stainless sticking to a magnet but sometimes you can tell with a magnet that although it sticks, it is not so strong a stick/grab as plain steel is. Try a definite plain steel straight after to see if there is a difference.
To prove about some stainless being magnet, try some cheap kitchen sinks and you may find that the bowl won't stick but the drainer does.

Just tried the sink/drainer and a magnet won't stick to any part, but it does grip every piece of cutlery I've tried in the drawer that's marked 'Stainless Steel'.

Stainless is heavier than mild steel too. You can go about with a set of scales if it helps.
