Clutch problems.....

I'm sat in an AA van as I write this, I passed my test last August and went out and bought an 03 fazer which I instantly fell in love with.

Today however she's breaking my heart.

Riding along my and the clutch lever wouldn't work, I could move it but it was loose and not doing what a clutch lever should.... Thinking the cable must have snapped I killed the engine and pulled over, as I did so, I saw a big pool of oil appear below the gear lever.

Any thoughts as to what  this could be?
Any help or advice would be appreciated!

Sounds like a problem with the clutch push rod where it goes into the engine under the front sprocket housing... Are you sure the chain hasnt snapped?

No I'm not 100% certain, but would this cause an oil leak? I'm not talking a couple of drops, this was a puddle (all over by back wheel too ! 😕)

I've had something similar happen to me on a long ride back from Hamburg.

My scottoiler ran dry, chain stretched, jumped a tooth on the front sprocket and hit the push rod, snapping it and dislodging the seal. I don't remember a lot of oil coming out though? But this would be my guess.

Tha'ts what I'm thinking... take your sprocket housing off and in front of the sprocket you should see a rod coming out of the engine, if there is just a hole that is leaking oil then your chain has either snapped or jumped and knocked the top off of the clutch push rod. I have also seen this happen when the front sprocket retaining nut has failed.

Thanks for the input guys, you were quite right, it was a sheared push rod.  Chain was intact though.
