FZS1000 caliper hanger
« on: 03 April 2014, 03:22:43 pm »
Hi,
Searched through the threads but I can't get a definite answer.
Does a FZS1000 caliper hanger fit on a FZS600?
Thanks

No worries  :D

To be less blunt, I believe the internal diameter of the spidle is larger on the 1000 so would be loose on the 600. The overall hanger might be too thick too which would mean it wouldn't fit between the wheel and swing arm.

The 600 hanger is easy to mod so the 1000 calliper fits though. You know how to do it?

Since i bare a small amount of responsibility here i trawled through & can see a quote from fizzy

Quote

The FZS1000 and XJR1300 (blue spot 2002+) are the same part. I think in '06 or '07 the xjr1300 was upgraded to a silver spot and is supposidly better still.

+1 to what FF says. The mounting holes are the correct pitch, the only mod required to is the 600 caliper bracket, theres some metal in the way, not much, just enough to make the 2nd hole not line up untill its filed back, two minute job i did mine on the breakfast bar with a g clamp and half round file, shhhh dont tell SWIMBO  Unquote

Thats what i was on about by saying you needed a file...i hadnt realised it was on the 600 mount but obviously you have one of them already.

had my FZS1000 rear caliper fitted today onto the 600 hanger,as stated above, you put the far end bolt through the caliper and into the 600's hanger and then try to line the other hole up,you will see just how little of the 600's hanger that you will need to grind down, mine was ground down still on the bike.you will have to take a smidgen off the far bolt hole end of the hanger as well

seemed very easy watching someone else do it!!  :lol

good luck

Pick up the caliper up from the depot today and I couldn't wait to fit on the bike.

First I removed the FZS1000 caliper bracket

Then I inserted left side bolt and offered it up into position to see where it needed grinding. I found that 2 points of the bracket needed grinding.

Using a Dremel, I ground down about 1-2mm from here........

and here.....

then I fitted the torque arm off a Thunderace, which conveniently also arrived today.  Took me around 30 from start to finish (fitting the torque arm took longer that the caliper).

I have a 2007 XJR1300 rear caliper on mine (well, technically a silver spot version) and you mod the FZS caliper mounting bracket the same way as you would for the FZS 1000 caliper.
So I guess it's the same.

Pics to follow....some day

Yep, did that, it says that the XJR caliper is from 2002 on but nowhere does it mention what year fazer thou caliper to use.
And please stop hitting me with that fish, you're giving me a headache

Is like to whack it harder.!

It's says the fzs1000 , AND ,#AND#, the xjr ARE THE SAME PART and that the xjr part was upgraded in 06/07 , so by elimination your looking for a model 2002  .. 2005/6 are u not?

Ah but that incident is more likely to do with the guy adjusting his chain without loosening the torque arm bolt , which is what he did, resulting in a twisting force along the arm and thus shearing off at the mounting bracket, which looks like what happened

It has nothing to do with the calliper and there are plenty of them around fitted to fz's

I supose I shouldnt take this thread off track. And you are right there seems loads that have done it. We dont know if this is what caused kebabs because he has not come back to his post.
But here is kebabs picture before it broke, compared to the OEM it is a lot lower and makes for a greater angle on the arm which inturn puts extra stress on the swingarm mount point. (to me anyway)
Edit--- or has he mounted the hanger differently

Agreed. I feel we are Saying the same thing
The calliper itself wouldn't seen to be the issue, based on wide spread use, but rather the arm used or the method used to secure the arm (OEM or whatever) to the swingarm mount (hopefully OEM)
