Got remus on mine, build quality is excellent, very loud without the baffles, nice sounding rasp when baffles in.

S2 is an improvement, doesn't seem to have the fuelling hesitation of the earlier model and the front brakes are definitely better. The new seat, not convinced, I know the old one was a bit hard but once you were used to it it was comfortable over distance.  Don't know about the S2 fairing though, never ridden an S2 Fazer. Differences not a massive improvement but the S2 is a better bike in my humble opinion.

I've had both over the years and ridden a few more that belonged to dealers, I would say neither is the better bike, they are just different. From nearly 20 years of running dealer ride outs, trips abroad, open days etc I've found the biggest influence on how a bike goes, feels etc is the rider, there are very few bad bikes any more.
I've just returned to the foccer fold after buying a bike to do track days and moto gymkhana, I looked at both FZS and FZ6 and only chose the FZ6 over the older model because a minter came up at the right price. If I'd found a really good FZS first I'd have  bought that first.

FZ6 / Fazer / two brothers juice box
« on: 02 November 2013, 03:43:46 pm »
A lot of people seem to have used these on the thou, has anyone tried one on the FZ6, I've just bought an S2 and I don't think a Power Commander III is available, has to be a PC V which is very expensive. Juice box is a lot cheaper but is it any good?

What's a Speedtona, a Daytona with Speed Triple bars so comfort of Speed Triple but with more power than any speed triple ever had (149bhp)
Silver 02 Double sided swingarm model (lighter and more rigid than single sided), in last few months had injection set up at main dealer, K and N filter, oil and filter change, new front and rear pads and fluid, plugs, new renthal sprockets, -1 front, +2 rear to gear down for sharper pick up.
Fitted carbon triumph can, original also included, pillion seat and single seat cover, spare set of wheels and discs with wet tyres in case you want to do a track day.
A comfy and very fast road or track bike, lot of bike for £1600

PM me if interested and I will send photos.

FZ6 / Fazer / engine bars
« on: 30 October 2013, 08:29:35 pm »
Well I'm back in the foccer fold, had a fox eye and 2 FZ6s in the past but moved away to bigger (but not necessarily better) things. Have just bought a pristine S2 FZ6, white with red tank stripe, loud pipes  :) and going to do both track days and moto gymkhanas with it. Need to put some engine bars on it because I have no doubt it will end up on its side at some point, hopefully on a moto g day and not a track day. Anybody got any experience with any particular make?

Can you expand on 'minor scratches' please, if it's been down does it have any marks on plastics or elsewhere or is it just on the casing?
Is there any chance of seeing some piccies?
Looking for something to do some moto gymkhana on and FZS fits the bill, with some engine bars of course!!!

Thanks

FZ6 / Fazer / Re: tickover for moto gymkhana
« on: 17 September 2013, 01:11:42 pm »
Thanks for that trudd, I thought somewhere around 2k would be about  right.
Bikes I ride most often at the moment are a Daytona 955i which has 149bhp and a crap rear brake, I tried a bit of practice on it and even on just a tiny bit of throttle it just overpowers the rear brake, and a Versys 650 which runs so roughly low down that it's very difficult to stop it surging at very low speeds. Can't help thinking a mid size 600 is the ideal weapon, ie FZ6, I've had a couple of them before and whilst I don't regret getting rid of them (had both early model and S2) I look back and think just how good they were. Did track days on them, toured, all sorts and they were great at everything with the added bonus that other people didn't expect them to be any good.
So I'm having a go in a couple of weeks on my Daytona (for the lack of having anything more suitable) and then over the winter I might have a look for an FZ6 again.

Think the theory is if you can set a high tickover you don't have to worry so much about the throttle and just control it on the brake. As for clutch, was told by THE MAN that you only used the clutch if you were riding a ditch pump (ie a single cylinder).

Anybody know how high you can go with the tickover adjustment screw?

Crikey, that's turned into a major saga, I just fitted it (dead easy because I didn't have all those extra bits taking up all the space), think it only took about an hour. Solved the tank prop problem by sticking a piece of wood in there. Plenty of room under the seat and no extra connectors on the battery post.

Because I had a modified pipe (looked standard but had been cut open, some pipes removed then welded back together) and no obvious map available I tried a few maps until I found one that felt best. Then just left it alone and enjoyed the improved performance which was pretty obvious on my older bike, didn't seem any more thirsty either.

In fact I'm now thinking of going back to an FZ6 again as I've had a couple of bikes since and don't enjoy them so much. So more than likely I'll be searching Ebay for an FZ6 Power Commander soon  :rolleyes

Glad it all worked out in the end

FZ6 / Fazer / tickover for moto gymkhana
« on: 15 September 2013, 11:27:34 am »
I'm thinking of having a go at Moto G on an FZ6, one thing the guys do to help is speed the tickover up significantly.
As I understand it the FZ has an idle speed screw, does anybody know how much difference this makes, how fast can if be adjusted to. It would only be a temporary thing so no long term effect I think.
Also do both the early and S2 models have the adjustment screw.

Cheers

Some of the maps on the dynojet site are specifically for decat bikes.
I took my exhaust to a local specialist who cut the box at the front, removed some of the baffles and then welded it together again so it looked standard but didn't sound it. That, a decat pipe and the PCii made it fly  :lol

Fitting is really simple, plugs straight in to existing loom. To set up and play with maps you will need to download the software from dynojet's web site (it's free), also download the FZ6 fitting instructions free from dynojet.
If you want to play with different maps while the PC III is fitted you will need to buy a usb adaptor lead (about a tenner off ebay) which then lets you plug your laptop into the PC III and load in different maps (which are available, again free from dynojet). I'm no mechanic but had no trouble loading and trying out different maps. Because I had a custom exhaust on mine there was no ready made map (have a look on dnojet's web site to see the list of ready made maps) so I just tried a few until I got one that really suited the bike. Once fitted and loaded with the best map it really did make a big difference, my mate on his street triple struggled to keep up in acceleration runs from any speed . I did a couple of track days on it and there wasn't a lot coming past, I never believed how much difference it could make. I've just bought an old Daytona 955i and the first thing I've done is buy a PCIII for it (had to get it from USA).
So no worries fitting and loading maps, really is simple, and it realy does make a difference.

I have a PCIII USB to fit the earlier FZ6 (part number 410 411)
When I fitted it to my FZ it made a huge difference, more go and better economy. Took it off when I traded it in, not giving it to the greedy dealer!!!
Want £130 for it, will post it for free to UK.

Something in exchange!!!!!
You get the glory of having your name mentioned in a national bike magazine, surely that's reward enough.
