General / MOT
« on: 04 May 2012, 12:36:21 pm »
My bikes due its MOT in june, was going to get it sorted this month to get it out the way.
Unfortunately my rear tyre has a small brass nail in it i'm unsure of the size so i've just left it in as theres no problems with leakage i don't see the point in fixing it as i'll be getting some new tyres soon.
Is this an MOT fail? Also abit concerned my exhaust isnt road legal but i've heard a few place let em go through.

FZS600 Fazer / Polishing rims
« on: 23 April 2012, 06:16:27 pm »
as my fazer rims are looking abit tatty i was thinking of polishing the rims only and keeping the 3 spokes black, luckily theres some markers to follow on the wheels

I was planning to do it myself with sandpaper and goodold polish.

Is it a massive job with poor results?

FZS600 Fazer / brake trouble
« on: 21 April 2012, 09:41:34 pm »
Decided to give my calipers a good clean today, pushed the pistons out, cleaned and applied red grease on the pistons fitted old pads back on etc.

i noticed the front wheel is slightly stiffer than what it originally was and after riding the discs do get hot (not scolding hot but hot enough to make it uncomfortable after a while. (Read somewhere this is perfectly normal so the brakes work in the wet   ::))

So riding home i was plodding along at 60mph some focus coastering behind me for ages then he wizzes past me flashing his hazards?

i'm thinking when i refitted the pads i never put them in the old positions hence the extra friction?

May have to part with my trusty 600 fzs next month  :evil

FZS600 Fazer / School boy error
« on: 14 April 2012, 09:24:03 pm »
so my throttle was slack, spent ages removing the tank, the bar that holds the fuel filter on just to get at the nut which adjusts the throttle at the carbs.

only to notice theres an adjuster right next to the throttle  :rolleyes

lesson learned

gave me chance to clean the filter though

Do the valves need doing? No differences to power etc and sounds normal once warmed.

FZS600 Fazer / Cleaning
« on: 17 March 2012, 09:53:40 am »
As winters now over and the salts fooked off (fingers crossed) the metal parts of my fazer are looking abit tarnished and could do with smartening up.

I've been using autosol and abit of elbow grease but it doesnt seem to remove everything.

Is there anything else better on the market for removing all the marks?

FZS600 Fazer / gearbox
« on: 28 February 2012, 07:14:24 pm »
my bikes suffered a clunky gearbox since i bought it 6000 miles ago with 13k on the clock. It glunked in first to second and strangely second to third  :'(

The gear rearset was setup correctly with the dot inline with the gap, since then ive moved it further down so the dots not inline strangely the gearbox seems to clunk less? :rolleyes

When i bought it to me it looked slightly bent (could this cause it?)

thankfully it doesnt suffer with the dreaded jumping out of second

Should i be concerned? i dont have much confidence with it atm and its even causing me to think about selling it incase it does go majorly wrong

FZS600 Fazer / Clutch Adjustment
« on: 16 February 2012, 07:10:40 pm »

The biting points in the correct place, any ideas on pricing aswell?

FZS600 Fazer / Possible over fueling?
« on: 11 February 2012, 04:43:30 pm »
Since changing my downpipes from OE to sandy spares i've noticed a drop in MPG from 48 to 42? i'm running it with a K&N and a GPR racing can also.

Or could it be due to the extremely cold weather we've had recently?

FZS600 Fazer / Which oil?
« on: 10 February 2012, 01:40:22 pm »
I currently use Semi Synthetic CASTROL POWER 1 10W40.

My question is, would the engine perform better with a thicker oil? When my fazers engines cold the gearbox is sublime feels very smooth.

Soon as the oil warms up the clunkiness sets in.
