Not mistakes, both drivers deliberately ignored road signs.

Well worth the effort.

The Audi driver seemed genuinly confused. The right turn right road arrow markings are in the middle of the intersection after the lights and are not standard some kind of sick joke. Too little too late road markings. I do not see the arrows marked before the lights. Anybody can make a mistake if the road markings are wrong or non-existing. Just saying.

Here is how it should be notice the proper turn right arrow painted before the intersection:

Any LOFO's about this weekend ?   I'm out if the weather's good. Might have a run to Loomies via the 272. Would've had my first service done on the MT10 by then and it's going to get unleashed  :evil  Any takers ?

Brilliant idea Dazza and the bike looks awesome   :thumbup

What day are you going? On Sunday? I can do Sunday. Can we meet anywhere on 272 and go together to Loomies? Chalet cafe again say 10am? Or somewhere in the middle on 272 say Petworth?

Nope, I waved that cager through with my right hand and I was aware of what was going on around me at all times.

I really don't understand the need to try and pick holes in my riding or prove, when you can't possibly, that my riding was dangerous.

No wonder no-one wants to stand up and speak out.

I would have been really surprised if you have replied:

Sorry it was entirely my fault, I was riding erratically and has changed my normal riding line in order to catch the van driver and almost got run over by a car.

My educated guess is never gonna happen  :lol

Why you can't go on and leave the other people do the same?

BTW road safety cannot be achieved by forcing people, the only way to go is have more pollite and non-confrontational environment on the roads.

And your cameras are making the bad situation worst. What would have happened if the van driver gets agitated? One potentialy bad road situation made worst by your vigilante camera appproach.

So in answer to Midden on the thread about the driver eating breakfast at the wheel:

Just a couple of thoughts just for fun ;)

1. How do you know he has to take his eyes off the road each time he puts spoon in the bowl looked to me as though his head was up and facing forward.  I don't find a need to look down at the bowl when I eat

2. How many seconds where your eyes off the road to try and get this man sacked.  Perhaps your numberplate should be splattered on facebook

My response:

Whether you think the Kelly Comms driver can eat from a bowl with a spoon whilst driving and keep his eyes on the road or not, it is illegal and dangerous.

Had he been seen by Police he would without a doubt have been nicked.

Who said I'm trying to get this man sacked? I'm not saying his work is at question, just his driving. I don't want him sacked, I want him to drive with care and consideration for others.

However if he did get sacked would I feel bad? I'm not sure, but I do know this:

I'd feel bad if he plowed into my partner on her scooter and killed her because he was eating and distracted

I'd feel bad if he plowed into my step daughter's car and killed my grandchild who at a few weeks old would be easily hurt even in her safety seat because he was eating and distracted.

I'd feel bad if smashed into my stepson as he crossed the road at a crossing and crippled him so he couldn't finish his Uni degree and spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair because he was eating and distracted.

Ask yourself if the driver felt bad for eating at the wheel and putting all the road users around him at risk, no he didn't, he felt hungry and couldn't give a toss about anyone else.

If he does get sacked because of this then it is his own fault, not mine.

Just for the record there is no answer here how many seconds you were distracted by chasing the van instead of riding normally?

Also I am not convinced that everybody should start wearing cameras and chasing bad drivers, because doing so will create dangerous conditions on the road itself.

Not to mention that everybody at some point by mistake or deliberately is braking some rules. I cannot stress enough EVERYBODY. Pretty sure if I follow you with a camera for a day or two and post that you will be surprised.

If somebody looks at the van driver video you have posted we may find that your riding is not very safe either.

why worry about a speck in your friend's eye when you have a log in your own?

To answer your question about cameras - I have 2 mounted on the bike as in black box configuration. Never post on youtube.

IMO all these cyclists and bikers wearing cameras and posting on youtube are a menace. Sorry if you feel offended, but you have asked for opinion - this is mine.

Good luck and safe riding  :thumbup

General / Re: Random starting problem
« on: 07 August 2016, 07:41:43 pm »
We deal with lots of batteries at work so the engineers have a good knowledge of their behaviour, and one of them is totally convinced i have a dud cell.
I have no reason to not believe him.
Should be delivered tomorrow and hopefully he'll be proven right.
A bit late now since you've spent yer money, but a few seconds work with a voltmeter might have been informative.

Did that yesterday.
Battery was on charge all night beforehand.
Went out to check at lunch time, off was 12.4v, engine on bounced around 12.58v, then after about 3mins of engine running i switched it off and it was then 12.6+ volts.
So it is getting a charge to it because it was higher volts at the end of the 3mins, but obviously not holding it too well, or as suggested i've got a dud cell and it's just not behaving normally.
I ride with both headlights on so they will be pulling down a bit of power as well.
If the battery gets there before lunch i'll fit it and test again, apparently new batteries come 75% dry charged and are basically ready to go from new once assembled, although i have access to untold chargers at work so may put it on a very low amp booster charge if it arrives early enough.

I had random starting issues last month - industrial amounts of Halfords contact cleaner in the ignition barrel has sorted the problem and now it starts on the buton.

If I am you I would check that battery myself:

Starting Load Test
  • Adjust voltmeter to DC volts (20 volt range).
  • Place voltmeter leads to the battery terminals. (positive to positive and negative to negative)
  • Watch the voltmeter as you start your motorcycle.
  • If the voltage drops below 9.5 volts, the battery has very low capacity and should be replaced.
Charging System Test
  • Adjust voltmeter to DC volts (20 volt range).
  • Place voltmeter leads to the battery terminals.  (positive to positive and negative to negative)
  • Start your motorcycle.
  • Bring engine RPM's up to approximately 3,000
  • Compare the voltage reading to the specification in your owner's manual.
(Note:the voltage reading should be approx. 13.8 - 14.5 volts to properly charge an AGM battery.)
From your measuramnets above I see 12ish volts when engine on - that is not enough to charge the battery means your reg/rec is gone IMO.

The Fazer has computer that sends specific signals, the speedo, rev counter and throttle position sensor are all linked so changing the speedo will cause you a lot of headache with RPMs and confused computer. The speed is measured against the revs and the position of the throttle. This info goes to the black box mounted just in front of the rear light on the mudguard.

The safe thing to do is to get from Christian here on the forum that has created Multi-Gauge

http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,13218.100.html

this is digital thingy that replaces the Fazer fuel gauge and shows digital speed and much more:

The Multi-Gauge displays various information at once, the layout of which can be configured by choosing from a set of view modes. The latest SW-version provides the following:

Gear: The currently selected drive gear, including Neutral. Calculated from the given rpm and speedo signals.

Fuel: As the Multi-Gauge replaces the original fuel gauge it has to display the level of the fuel tank. Shown in numbers or as a bar. Corrections are applied to compensate for the tank geometrie and to reach maximum accuracy. A warning LED serves as low level indicator.

Water temp: The current temperature in the coolant system. The orignal sensor signal is used.

Air temp: The current ambient temperature. Provided by an extra sensor that comes with the gauge.

Battery: The current system voltage, taken from inside the dashboard.

Speed: The current speed, taken from the speedometer signal and corrected by an (adjustable) factor and a speed dependant wheel slip. Readout in KM or MPH.

Speedometer correction: The multi-gauge is capable to apply a correction factor to the speed signal and feed it back to the analog speedometer and odometer.
Acceleration: A timer starts automatically with the first move and counts up to a definable speed or distance (e.g. 1/4 mile).

Stop watch: Start/stop or laptime for use on race tracks, controlled by a (extra) button at the handlebar.

GPS data: Displays the data from an additional, external GPS receiver (speed, height, course, time, etc. ).
The GPS receiver is not part of the package.

Gear shift indicator: The warning LED starts flashing if a certain rpm value is passed. A second (higher) rpm value can be defined for permanent light. Each gear can be set individually.

Of course the display cannot show all the information at once. Therefore the user can choose from a set of predefined viewmodes that set the bits of information in different arrangements.

« on: 07 August 2016, 12:36:21 pm »
So I'm looking at a 58 fz6. It looks in decent nick, only a few scrapes on the fairing. Has done 25000, is there anything to look out for specifically, anything that's likely to need doing shortly...

Except keeping your old Fazer? I was looking at this and do not think the engine and the power delivery is smoother then my Fazer. And the brakes are not so good. The suspension is slightly better for S2 model.

Otherwise the bike looks great, but it is a step back from the old Fazer IMO.

Like most Yamaha's the bike is buletproof. There are no recalls for machines after 2005. The only recall ever was for idle sensor for 2005 bikes. So you will be fine.

I would change the front sprocket to 1 tooth less to 15 to give it a little more poke.

You need boat/marine grade vynil upholstery faux leather: http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/boat-vinyl-upholstery

Here is how to do it:

It is very easy. If you do that you can also buy some extra foam and make the seat really comfty.

Or for £40 you can let the pros do it: http://www.sussexmotorcycles.com/elite-comfort-motorcycle-seats.html

I did a bit of research on this and found that graphite lube is great stuff on dry locks, but not so much in wet conditions when it turns into a mush.

I use to use it. Now I never use anything that may cause me problems with electrical contacts. I have got some issues with my bike not starting two months ago. I flushed the ignition lock with a lot of electrical contacts cleaner. Problem solved.

Now I prefer my ignition lock not lubed, on the bright side the bike starts each time fine.
