05 fz1 oil/water pump chain loose
#1
started to take out the water pump and then decided to just do gaskets and never removed pump but now that im putting it back together, im finding that the chain has way to much play imo. i loosened the sprocket to allow me to take chain off but never did and went to tighten chain sprocket (lower) and its now got like 3-4 inches of play if not more, i can alost pop it off of the sprocket. i never removed clutch assembly and went through the oil pan. i initially started this job because i tracked down a tick/ rattle to the area the pump is at, and i cant find any way to tension said chain. is the chain stretched out? am i missing something? 7

also side note the bike gets hot really quickly and the carbs make a really weird almost pulsing noise at idle? ive cleaned themj out very roughly (its my first time working on a bike but im mechanically inclined so took it on. ive been told that they shouldnt make much noise if any at all. any help would be much appreciated as i am a bike noob after all lol. side note when carbs were cleaned they were never synced after wards so idk if thats the pulsing noise?

There is no means of tensioning the oil/water pump drive chain. Either you've not refitted something correctly e.g. sprocket, chain guide or there's excessive wear in the chain, sprockets or shafts.

Noises are very subjective, given this is your fist time working on this bike and possibly limited bike spannering experience you could end up doing more damage. Firstly why were you taking out the waterpump?

i was under the assumption that the ticking noise i was hearing was from there so i was gonna look into if it needed any repair or anything and then found that the weep hole was leasking oil so i ended up deciding to just regasket italso to add i only loosened the sprocket and pump i never removed either and i also didnt remove the chain at all

Ticking often is out of balance carbs which could also be why they're making odd noises.
