choice of two bikes but only one budget
#1
so i'm trying to get an fz1 and my budget is low. Currently on autotrader are two examples, almost identical. The cheaper one (according to asking price) by 600 quid has done 49k. Who of you have those kind of miles on the clock and is it worth the extra to buy the lower mileage (28k).
im crap at haggling plus the higher mileage bike already has an aftermarket can so that would feature as add on expense for the lower mileage bike.
Summary
49k £2700 done
28k £3300 plus ca200 new can
id appreciate any insights
cheers people

I got 85tkms on my, and it runs perfectly.I know there is many guys with more then 100t or even 150t miles under the belt and still running great.
Hence, it is up to you, maybe the best is to go and check them out live.

Have you considered an Fz8? There's a lower mileage one I  your budget, they are practically the same bike just with slightly less top end power

I just found a great bike on Auto Trader.

Got links to these bikes? I ask because after looking at several FZ1's and then making the FAQ I have a reasonable idea on what to look out for.

So they can really go the distance, thanks for the feedback. It confirms what I suspected cheers ?

Thanks, appreciate the info, as above, starting to think the mileage alone is prob not the deciding factor. Cheers ?

Yeah i know you can find them cheaper but im a bit of a paranoic and these dealers offer 3 month warranty, it makes me a bit more comfortable. But still good to know about the mileage side... cheers dude.[/size]

So my thoughts on the first bike

  • The crank inspection cover has noticeable painting peeling.
  • The front wheel is worse for wear and will prolly need repainting.
  • The Left hand mirror has scuffs and scrapes.
  • The Clutch lever has scuff and scrapes.
  • The bar end and the grips are non-std and just looks crap imho.
  • The tail end/tidy is non std and needs a repaint.
  • The end can is non-std, so has the ECU been remapped to take this into account
  • The mirror stems have noticeable corrosion.
  • The underside edges of the tank has corrosion.

Bike market says the trade price on a 2008 w/18k is £2700, this bike has 2.5x that mileage so this dealer is untrustworthy chancer. I would walk away from this bike.

My thoughts on the second bike

  • The headers and the water pipes are very corroded - which would also suggest the header studs/nuts are fucked.
  • The riders left foot peg is missing the kick cover and screws.
  • The chain soft-link is very rusty.
  • The stock exhaust has got scuff and scrapes.
  • The front and rear brake disc bolts are all rusty
  • The bike has mismatched tyres, has a nice Micheline PR4 on the rear but a shitty Maxxis on the front

So the same as the last bike, BikeMarket says £2400 for 2008 with 20k. So like the last place this dealer is also taking the piss, again walk away from this one also.

Keeps on searching:

So there appears to be a 2010 (and its the ABS model) with 10k going for £4k and this is under market price according to Bike market (https://www.thebikemarket.co.uk/yamaha/fz-fazer/fz1). Ping me once the seller has uploaded pictures and I will have a look at it -

So spoke to https://www.mmcbikes.co.uk/ and the bike is a trade in but they don't have photo's yet. So if want the bike before it gets sold, drop them a line and speak to kevin - 01744 616161.

He said you can secure it with a refundable £100 deposit should you not like what you see in the photos once the bike arrives in the shop etc. But from the description it looks like its in the same layout as the image I used for the FAQ -

Wow thanks for all the research. I'm on ice for a moment. Car had its major service and they're getting back to me about an issue. So just for a bit, my budget is on hold.
Cheers for all your help much appreciated. ?
