Aftermarket electricals - how many?

Hi, I've got a 52 plate Foxeye which has heated grips and an alarm fitted. Will soon be adding a Wingrack :-) with indicators, was also thinking about some running lights. Is there a point where the battery will run down too quickly if you've got lots of extras running or are there any other issues to consider?


Maybe I should've paid more attention in O level Physics  :z

You'll not stretch the battery with what you've listed. I've got grips and running lights (10w) and had no issues.

I have an air horn, heated grips, spotlights and LED indicator/tail lights.


The main thing i found is that the (modded) headlights seem to use the most power, so i keep them off as much as possible and use the spots as running lights, which are way brighter than the headlights anyway, in night or daytime, although obviously i switch them on at night time, with the spots on as well.
I use the heated grips more often than not, and not really had any issues otherwise.


Around this time of year when the temperature drops i will give the battery a proper charge using an external charger, but i only do that once a year as a booster as i don't commute too far and the bike sits out in the cold all day at work.

The battery is only really used for starting the bike.  After that it's all handled by the generator.

Measure the battery with the headlights on, then off, and there's quite a difference, so it must affect the charging rate? Especially like me who only does short runs.

I seem to remember reading that the 2002 Foxeye generator puts out more power than the Boxeye one?

Yep, probably because it has both headlights on when dipped by default. Hence no headlight mod required, and obviously the greater power drain as standard required the bigger alternator.
Eitherway, my old Fazer was regularly used with air horn, heated gloves, Cree LED lights, satnav and a usb socket for a fairing mounted camera. Occasionally at low revs the USB socket would cut out due to voltage drop, but no other hassles.

I forgot they have 2 x H4 bulbs as standard.
