Fuel Tank capacity
#1
Hello Guys.
Have anyone actually measured the exact amount of litres the fuel tank carries on a FZS600 98-99?
I have different figures from different sources raging from "approximately" 18 to 20 litres. We all know that our fuel gauge is very inaccurate, so if by knowing the average MPG and the exact amount of fuel carried, we can know the autonomy or our bike.
THanks.

The amount of fuel carried makes little difference. If you always know you fill up to the bottom of the filler tube, and always fill up when the light comes on, you will know your range unless you are looking to risk it and take the tank to fully empty.
For the 1999 bike, the capacity, listed by Yamaha, is 18 litres. This is from empty to the bottom of the filler spout. For the later bikes, it is 21 litres. Both of these numbers have a theoretical 3 litres left when the fuel light comes on.

I thought the original boxeye 1998-99 bikes had an 18 litre tank, then the mildly updated 2000 onwards bikes had a modified filler neck allowing slightly more juice in?

Regardless, unless you're going fairly mad on the roads you should be getting at least 45mpg, so I'd estimate a minimum tank range of 170 miles, with 200+ possible if you're taking it a bit easier.
