Wheel refurbishment
#1
Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone knew of a shop that does motorcycle wheel refurbishment? I have a replacement wheel that needs stripping, repainting so I can swap it for my current wheel (which is slightly buckled)

I live in South West London/Surrey

you can strip the enamel and respray it yourself with paint for alloy wheels,

Car-Plan do a good quality alloy wheel paint I have used on a few occasions, the only problem is limited colour options. :'(

A paint stripper I have used to good effect is called Strypit.

Be careful with this stuff it will burn you fingers and I dread to think about it splashing in your eye, I wear googles and kitchen gloves

Just noticed that the above link says it a new formulation so now I am not so sure how good it is as it say Non Caustic

If you willing to replace the bearings then it might be worth getting it powder coated instead. Not sure about your area but around here it's £50 a wheel and that includes blasting back to bare metal first. Comes back like a brand new in any colour ya could want

I think I'm going to have it powder coated to be honest. I'm okay with servicing the bike and bits and bobs like that but I don't have a garage or the space to do a spray job myself.

There seems to be a fair few wheel refurbishers in SW London but none seem to do bike wheels.
