ok so i ordered a new seat cover to replace the torn split and goes rock hard when it gets wet (very uncomfortable after a long ride)
pulled all the staples as you would normally do and the bloody foam fell off aswell
question is what glue has anyone used with good results as i have a large selection of glues but i dont want to melt the foam and be royally screwed
ive got a day or two before i refit the cover as the foam is sat by the radiator drying out any advise will be appreciated.
I'd use Copydex. As you say, solvent-based glues run the risk of dissolving the foam.
PVA adhesives would probably work too.
I just use carpet spray adhesive when I'm sculpting or recovering seats.
Don't forget to put plenty of cling film over the foam before putting the cover on.

im sure there is some spray adhesive in the cupboardcling film for movement or additional waterproofing ????
Spray contact adhesive works well, handily a carpet fitter left some at my house after a cushion flooring job so I have some in stock. Not that I’m planning a seat recovering job anytime soon!
Wot he said, extra waterproofing.

might go with shrink wrap - reasoning being i have loads of it and im less likely to get a bollocking when the leftovers need to be wrapped
(also its a bit stronger than cling film)
great tip thankyou

Don't use copydex - this will break down in short time - it is a solvent based glue you need to use , you need a contact adhesive - spray or tube its up to you . I used Evostick impact from a tube which I got from B+Q but I would have used the spray stuff if they had some 1

after looking at it this morning i dont think i really need to glue the foam to the plastic as there are enough bumps to hold it in place
(and my carpet fitting glue has disapeared)
i am calling in someone that owes me a favour and used to recover MX seats to give me a lesson (or do it for me) as i already see problems arising
might have to go pick up an compressed air stapler as mine isnt up to scratch
when it comes to engines and metal im fine but when it comes to anything art and crafty im sh*t

ok sorry for not updating earlier but got a beer in my hand and got distracted
got recovered today after getting a air stapler (needed one anyhow)
used a bit of shrink wrap to add the extra waterproofing

this is a three hand job to really pull in the stretch and staple nicely (volunteer got the stapler)
throw the new vinyl in tumble drier for a few mins first and staple front and back
try and pull in the 'arse hump' part first to pull that in
then work away to pull in any wrinkles - it came pretty natural of what was needed to heat then pull (dirty minded jokes are expected)
the end result

looks a fine job! nice one
That looks really neat.
What sort of vinyl did you get? Does it stretch both lengthways and widthways?

Type of vinyl - black stuff
was just on ebay precut for about 13 quid (wasnt even thinking about doing it till i saw it)
seems to stretch in all directions as i expected it too
did find it was a little delicate though and wanted to tear if i didnt get enough staples in quick enough or had the stapler pressed hard against the surface
Hey punk do you have a link for the cover you purchased ?
