FZ6 Front Sprocket Hooked
#1
About 6000 miles ago, I replaced both front and rear sprockets and the chain with a DID Gold X Ring set.

I've had up to 18,000 miles out of a chain and sprocket set before, I've always kept the tension adjusted properly and have a Scotoiler on it to keep it lubed, but the front sprocket has become noticably hooked. The rear is ok and so is the chain.

I know the advice is to always change the whole lot in one go, but is this really necessary? I've read that the front tends to wear more than the rear, so can I just put a new front one on?

I think it's worth changing the front. It does get worn far faster because it's turning the chain through a much tighter angle which means the forces on the teeth are higher, plus each tooth obviously gets hit 3 times as often as one on the rear sprocket.

Could just be a soft/dodgy sprocket.
Given the low mileage, I would be tempted to go with just a new front one.
Another ex-Fazer rider that is a foccer again

I would clean and check the chain for tight spots etc and fit a new front sprocket, for the price what have you got to lose?

Just fitted a new renthal front sprocket to my thou.
The DID ZVM chain has done 17,000 miles but shows no sign of wear or tight spots, plus the rear sprocket is in good nick.
So far so good.

Thanks, guys :thumbup

I think I'm going to try just changing the front sprocket. I don't see that it's going to do any harm and if the chain and rear sprocket are ok, it's pointless spending out the extra dosh.
