Tyres
#1
Well the time has come to put new rubber on the bike, what do you recommend tyre wise ? Fast road and at weekends and travelling to and from what. Also sad I know but I am a fan of rim tape and/or painted wheels question is should I get the wheels powder coated while I have the wheels off or just put nice fresh rim tape on?

I could change my opinion, but then we'd both be wrong.

So you're a fan of rimming, how about leaving the stock coating on and polish the rims
Complete fabrication, I didn't make it up!

Lets cut to the chase here: get the wheels powder coated and put a set of Michelin pr3 front pr4 rears on it, the smile on your face will be far greater than any "rim" job you get  :rollin

very bizarre that this should come up last night.  I have just taken my very tatty rim tape off the rear wheel with the intention of replacing it but having given the wheel a good clean I like the plain black wheel, then I look at the front with the tape on and I like that too.  The only problem is, I can't work out which I like more.........  But I get the feeling that rim tape is mostly frowned upon on here.  :lol

It doesn't matter whether it's frowned upon on here or anywhere else, it does nobody any harm. It's your bike so it's yours to do whatever you want with it. Personally I don't like powder coating, for me it goes on too thick and doesn't look right, especially on frames but I don't frown on anyone for doing it.

Sorry if it came across like that. It wasn't meant to. :rolleyes  Just that people do all sorts of things to their bikes, cars, homes etc, that not everyone else or even anyone else is going to like but if the owner likes it, that's really all that matters. Others will always have opinions but should that affect what you do with/to your own stuff?

But I can't make my mind up LOL

Maybe I'll do rim tape on the LHS and plain on the RHS..  :rollin

The main reason I started this post was due to the fact that I own a red (yes the fastest colour) fz6 but the only part of the bike that is red is the tank, the bike did have red rim tape on the wheels which weren't put on very well at all so I removed it, now the bike looks like I have put the wrong tank on. So if I powder coat the wheels red it might blend in better or do I spray the tail piece red?

Classic coatings in Grantham do a nice thin powder coat, had my car wheels done there and you can still read all the manufactures markings (stamped) would look great on bike wheels, unfortunately for me my wheels are steel and have started to rust after a couple of years.

They have a website with examples of their work

I've got rim tape on one wheel on one side of the bike only.  :rolleyes  I got the tape kit off ebay, it was meant to be in fast silver but it actually looks like white on the bike. It shows up the dirt so much that I couldn't be ar5ed to put the other strips on. I should really take it off to be honest.
