So I "won" a free dyno power run... the bike is 17 years old... and i was hoping for a solid 85 bhp.... how wrong I was.. shes running 80.65 bhp... Not a bad number but would have liked to have seen better..
Now here's the problem, the air/fuel mixture seems to go mad at 5000 revs. The guy running the dyno has suggested a new air filter as a quick cheap fix. Poor guy had long queue so I did not ask more questions.
Can anybody think of anything that could help solve the problem?
Bike is a 2000 fzs 600, only change is aftermarket exhaust.
Cheers.
K&N filter will sort it out :thumbup

Had mine dyno'd a few times, although never with the current K&N air filter fitted.
There was always a discrepancy at mid range, but was always told aftermarket exhausts would never match the OEM one on a Fazer, and this fella really knows his stuff.
Rejetting never helped either, tried that and it never ran right at all.
It's a 17yr old bike, don't expect miracles, just enjoy what you've got.

Moderators, you gotta sort out that miniscule texting thing, it happens a lot.
Don't even know why that happened?

I thought the fazer was supposed to be 95bhp from new and assumed with a sports exhaust and k&n filter it would be touching 100.
Where do all the horses go?

Fazer is rated at 95 Metric Hospower which is about 70Kw and 94 BHP
Dyno is at the rear wheel unless its converted to Crank. 10 to 15% would be the approximate losses between rank to rear wheel.
this would put 80 bhp at the lower end of the % rule
So 95bhp (at the crank/flywheel)
and 80hp (at the wheel)

This was 4 years ago, when i used to be able to run the 100m in 9.5secs.
Now i can run 9.5metres in 100secs. :lol

Different dyno, different conditions, even a different dyno operator can all have an effect on the bhp figure.
Dynos obviously vary considerably, but I read somewhere a long time ago that the FZS600 puts out between 79 and 83 @ the back wheel. If this is true, it sounds like your peak power is well within the normal range. The Thundercat only generates about 5 ponies more (until the ram-air effect kicks in) so unless you only want top-end power as the later R6s did, 80 ponies with an impressive midrange is very good for a 19 year old middleweight all rounder.

Exactly, it is what it is, if you need or want more then get a bigger bike.

hey youngster i was there lol colchester kawasaki i watched the run , i was there with my fazer
Set Fazer's to stun
Those curves are very interesting!
If you ignore the max torque and power figures and look at the extra torque/power you're getting at the lower revs (below 5,000rpm). It looks about 20% more! I'm not sure how much time i spend with my bike between 3,000 and 5,000rpm, but I should think that extra power would be quite noticeable around town and off the line.

it only happens with a couple of users. Must be their browsers

Yes, thank you :thumbup

Just as an update... i am in no way complaining about 80 bhp. its plenty enough to kill me. i need no more. its more the dip at 5k revs that is bugging me.
it accelerates fast then drops for a second till it picks up again.. thats what i want to fix
might need the carbs cleaned
It's the exhaust that's causing it.
