Front forks

Hi Folks, can anyone suggest what method they have used to remove front wheel and forks from my 600.
I need to repolish the fork bottoms and change the fork oil but i cant jack the front up under the engine due to the down pipes being in the way. Any ideas gladly welcomed, ta.

Hi Ned,
I have made up a piece of wood to do the job (See Pic) its 3 X pieces of 4" X 2" nailed together, nail one on top of the second then nail the third piece to the other two, That way 4" nails will do it.
I then cut two other bit of 4" X 2" and nailed them across the bottom at 90 Degrees to the others to act as braces to stop it tipping over, I then nailed a piece of 4" X 1" to the top of the structure to give me 1 inch clearance under the front wheel. Most building sites would have theses bit of odd/scrap timber lying about that they would most likely be happy to give you.

All bits of timber need to be about 16 to 18 inches long.

The exhaust down pipes will take the weight of the bike no trouble at all, I have even sat on my bike with it up on the timber stand.


The pic of the bike is my old girl, but she has had a lot of work done the the suspension since these pics were taken.

Bobbins are good, not just if you drop the bike
- dont even have to lift the bike just lean it to one side then the other, mine came with em already on its true!

I just use a ratchet strap round handlebars and garage roof joist.

Yeah with 14inch








[size=1em]inside leg, I stand on that step it to get on the bike, also helps me get my little fellow over the side of the pan, its a real time savers as I don't have to spend 2 or 3 minutes washing the bathroom floor a number of times a day[/size][size    :evil

Impressive carpentry skills tommy, the bike don't look too shabby either, if only it was blue  :lol
Last time I had my 600 forks off I got the mrs to sit at the back of the seat and put some bricks under the pipes with a small plank of wood at the top to protect the downpipes.
You'll have to put some new pics up showing it after the suspension mods

Not much to show really Graham, all the work on the forks is inside they are converted to cartridge emulator damping (YYS Emulators) instead of the damper rod type. New springs (Ohlin's Linear 8.5 N/mm) and a Nitron race shock on the back.
I did do a write up on it somewhere on here, but not sure if I can find it now. I will have a look for it and bore the tits off everyone . :rollin

Are those calipers hanging on the brake hoses? not a good habit to get into. Hang them with tie wraps of something similar next time.

You can jack the front end up with the downpipes in place just put a sheet between the downpipes and jack.

They were supported by the tray of bits and it was a fairly quick job... - but you are probably right
