Clutch on the cage

For the past couple of years the clutch on my 03 plate Honda Jazz has always been a little juddery now and again but nothing too serious.  Today it's started squealing when I press the pedal, it keeps squealing until release.  Guess it's a nice big bill just before Christmas for a new clutch  :'(

squealing when pressed in. Engine speed related? If so it will be the release bearing. If your going to strip it down for that your at the point you may as well replace the plate while your there to save money later.
Depending on the car, some manufacturers recommend replacing the flywheel and starter motor at the same time.

nope, nothing speed related, I can be sitting in traffic with the clutch pressed and it's squealing away, also noticed when I put it into first the revs drop as though it starts to stall, I suspect where the clutch isn't engaged quite correctly.  I'm guessing bearing.

If it starts to stall when you select first then the clutch isn't fully disengaged.If it's a hydraulic clutch it might need bleeding,irrespective of the release bearing noise.If it's cable operated maybe it's about to let go.

Defo the thrust bearing, clutch pedal in = squeal ,clutch pedal out = silence.
Not many garages will replace just the thrust bearing, if the car has the miles on it to have shagged the thrust bearing the friction or drive plate will not be far behind, complete new clutch is the sensible answer.
The clutch started to slip when gunning my MR2 away from a large roundabout near me, its the only way to get across this bloody great doughnut on the A3 London to Portsmouth road. New clutch (Thrust Bearing, Driven/Friction Plate and Pressure Plate) fitted £256-00 job done in a day car is good for another 80-90K miles.
The MR2 mid engined jobby is quite heavy on the clutches, limited slip diff on rear wheel drive.

Another one for release bearing......gearbox has to come out to replace exposing the clutch . Clutch plates are not expensive so good to change at the same time.....biggest cost for clutch replacement is labour by a long way....not a diffacult job but not as easy as a FAZER......save some quids and DIY  Wink

Red, there aren't enough hours in the day for me to type up all my woes and FOC ups while changing the clutch  :rollin


Besides, I know my limit on mechanics, I think I'm down to tyre pressures and washing it LOL

Reds right the cost of my clutch was £88-11p and £175-00 to fit it, just looked at the fitters bill.
