Ladies and gents, boys and gals ...
I understand that there will be some machining / jiggery pokey to fit them, that both will need up-rated springs and that both are a considerable upgrade over the stock FZS600 rear shock. And while I know that some feel that the stock shock is fine with the correct spring, I like the thought of an adjustable shock.
So far the BMW is winning my vote as it's slightly longer so will jack up the rear (perfect for my streetfighter project) - whereas the R6 will lower it.
What I'm after is how their performance compares against each other: anybody got any first hand experience?
I've fitted the later BMW shock and fitted a harder spring (not sure what effect this will have on the damping) If you go this route you'll need to hit the centerstand bracket with a grinder as the lower linkage hits the bracket. The shock needs filing around the top mount as it wont line up with the holes in the bracket on the frame until you've removed some material. The coolant reservior needs either modifying or relocating and you'll need adjustable (or the exact length) dog bones to stop the shock hitting the cross brace on the swingarm.
Other than that its a straight swap............
It may be slightly cheaper than the R6 etc swap but straight forward it isn't.
Complete fabrication, I didn't make it up!
Hagon rear shock off the shelf. Fits straight on, good performance, reasonable price......
Iv just received and fitted an r6 shock from kebab. Haven't ridden it yet. Waiting for dry track. But the conversion is good and feels quite a bit stiffer than the standard shock.
Kebabs a Legend on here on this subject, i have had a few email convos with him on this subject last year and will definatly look into this in the first half of next year. Let us know how it feels
