#1
ok, so im 47years old and falling apart :eek :eek... 2 focced knees and a gammy hip :rolleyes... the knees because when your young you don't think to use knee pads :uhuh ( im  a heating engineer so on my knees most of the day some days ) the hip because of 3 offs on the right side 30 years ago,  so I can only ride for about an hour before I have to stop for a break... doesn't matter if im riding like a god Confusedun or just bumbling around. 8) 8) 8)

so who else suffers :rolleyes
FOCing down under.......dodging vacant Skippy's.

Old age is a bummer, right leg is focced, I can manage up to 1.5 hours before I have to get off, some days are better than others.
I haven't ridden my FZ1 for 10 days as my knee and calf are swollen that much , kick in the teeth is my doctor reckons that one of  the meds I take for high blood pressure is making it worse.

51 year old former Hod carrier, groundworker general building site donkey,
Now felling trees cutting hedges and doing fencing work.
Just spend 9 hours with a pole hedge trimmer in my hands plus the bending and picking up involved with clearing up.
I can't list the aches and pains, It's easier just to say my whole body hurts.
I find the bike is quite easy, apart from that arse muscle that seems to twist funny and hurts like hell when I first get on sometimes, but getting off and remounting usually sorts it.

48 and knees shot through over 20 yrs of Rugby plus a service engineer until 3yr ago. Like OP spent lots of the day on my knees.

Can manage 1.5 hrs on the Fazer (need to stretch knees after 45 mins but 6'4") but last all day on the Tiger. Bitch is the Fazer is so much better getting through traffic to work in London.

Forgot - riding a bike sorts out my dodgy back after a bad fall 8yr ago. If I don't ride my back tightns up  :lol
Those are my principles...if you don't like them I have others.

My aches and pains are why I am here  :rollin
I had a very nice 1988 NX650 but in the last months I (52) had more and more problems getting on the bike due to problems with my right leg.
So I sold it and bought a 2003 foxeye and everything is fine now  Smile

That's encouraging to hear! Still got all kinds of aches and pains from my recent back injury, just hoping most of it is muscular where I've had enforced idleness for so long, and will improve when I finally am given the green light to start some physio. Was getting some lower back pain before this too, bad after a lot of bending over (gardening, which I'm having to do a lot of before selling this place, washing the bike etc).

Left shoulder is my built-in barometer. I literally know when a low pressure system is moving in from the ache there, and the right shoulder from where it has carried for the left for nearly 30 years. Knees have both seen damage, and am wondering if my house search ought to focus on bungalows  :lol  Lots of things I can't do because of the shoulder, but funnily enough, it's mostly fine on the bike, although a long day in the saddle needs a few rest stops.

Hindsight's a wonderful thing ,I think we all would have done things different had we realised  but no here I am at 53 had a knee replacement end of Feb and I ache from the nose down every morning when I get up due to too many years doing manual labour and getting up early . I know its wishing your life away but ROLL ON RETIREMENT ! Smile

stevie, what have you started  :lol .....ok ,52 worst bit that aches is my feet, tops and soles ache torwards the end of the day, used to do a lot of kayaking which buggered up my back, dont go out much now but still get a twinge now and again....good on the bike and usually go a tank full but depends on what sort of riding if iam enjoying A road twisties i can go all day, stick me on a motorway and num bum creeps in at about an hour or so,but thats easily sorted...a roads only...

had a recent low speed off, just a few small bruises, been 5 days now and still a bit uncomfortable, years ago i would of forgotten about that the following day.......so,as we get older it makes sense to look after ourselves a bit better, ease up a bit and let the young, uns do the hard work  Wink

Yep 58 now and never exactly took care of myself as a young roof tiler/ceiling fixer and in the navy before that. the worst thing i did was drive a taxi as all those hours spent sat on my arse done more harm than good. Still thats the main reason we ride fazers not sports bikes eh.

By the time I turned 50 I was waking up with a crick in my neck most mornings and had stiff joints everywhere.
I tried Glucosamine with the expectation that it was a waste of money… and was soon proved wrong. It's worked wonders. Smile

Another supplement for all yous old farts.........rose hip......really good stuff.

Walking is also one of the best gifts anyone can give themselves as a means to keeping pain free......hour a day......get a dog.

Weight training is also proven to be good for bones, joints & general wellbeing.....dont listen to all the endurance freaks who say it has no place......if more old folk went to the gym they might still be able to get themseves up & down the stairs instead of splashing out on bungalows.....much cheaper too.

& of course as frosties says......riding is the best cure for everything coz when youre grinning you're relaxed.........ok im lying.......maybe FZ1 isnt the best bike if you have any pains.......id still rather be shitting myself on a tight corner than shitting myself while sat watching bowls :lol
Easiest way to go fast........don't buy a blue bike

^^This. Mandatory.

I laugh when young (unqualified) folk try to advise older folks about how to deal with aches and pains. There'll come a day when you'll know what we're on about Noggy  Wink
