Hi All
I see several options on eBay for replacement fork springs: hyperpros (most expensive), wilbers, ohlins (middling cost) and wirth, a german firm I'd not heard of, making a credible looking progressive spring (cheapest)
I guess ohlins is the most attractive brand of the bunch, but their springs will be linear, so perhaps too firm and sporty for the Fazer? I use it mostly for spirited touring and the road surface can be pretty rugged hereabouts
I'd be grateful for your wisdom and experience on linear v progressive fork springs, and on the best aftermarket spring option
Sorry if this question has been answered already elsewhere. I did take a look round before posting, but coudn't find what I needed
Thanks
Im after new springs for my Gen 2 so am interested to hear the general opinion.
I contacted k-tech and they recommended 8.5-9 NM springs for my weight (circa 16 stone naked).
After reading up i came to the conclusion that linear springs are best as they are custom for your weight whereby progressives seem to cover a range of rider weights.
Talking to u fazed the other day we were discussing having springs on the softer side for modern uk roads...ie shite ones....the roads arent getting fixed any time soon are they....i seem to be able to get more of a shift on with a softer set up.
To add to your questions then my question is - are standard springs progressive...i guess they must be considering yamaha doesnt know who will have the bike.....this is more why i think linear is besypt for an individual rider.
Easiest way to go fast........don't buy a blue bike

From my limited experience (only just gone from OEM progressive to K-Tech linear) I would say it depends on your priorities. If you use your bike mainly for one up hooning then linear all the way, assuming you take advice and get the right springs for your weight. If you use your bike as a jack of all trades for Sunday one-up blasts, regular commuting with luggage and occasional two-up touring then progressive would probably be the way to go.
have you considered Hagon - good price and better performance than standard springs even for a chunky chappie like me (16 stone)?
This is as young as you're ever going to be!
I went to K Tech as they were the cheapest (85 quid if I remember correctly). I got linear 9.5's at 13 stone as I do like to lean on the front end, Plus I have changed the rear shock so my bike isnt standard.
I tend to think springs are springs, as long as you avoid Chinese knock offs then once you get in amongst the named brands they are much of a muchness. I know Ohlins have the best name, and their stuff is great, but springs werent where they made their name.
Unless you go for the progressive Hyperpros would you really be able to tell the difference between any of the others you list?
Definately buy Ohlins fork oil though. They spent shitloads developing that and it has been proven better than the other brands.
