Pass switch - no work no more
#1
The 'pass' switch on my left hand switch gear (2003 Foxeye), I am correct in saying this is supposed to briefly flash main beam lights - right? I ask, as I'm pretty damned sure it used to, but now it's currently not doing anything particularly obvious and I'm starting to doubt myself...

Any ideas on what could be up? Any common issues? Or just time to crack open the switch gear and give it a good dousing of switch cleaner?

Mine is in the same state at the mo.

My plan is to undo the two screws holding it together.  Hope nothing falls out that then overcomplicates the job and leaves me without everything else in that unit.  Blow inside the housing.  Hope it works..... if it doesn't spray some WD40 in there.  Hope it works.....if it doesn't  screw it back together and ask for a 2nd hand one on here!  Big Grin

1st are you sure that your full beam bulb is working.
I dont think I have ever used it bearing in mind how crap the boxeye lights are I dont trust that anyone has seen the flash so prefer to used hand signals ---- mainly just the fingers !
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.

Yep, main beam works fine. And not too bad on the FoxEye. Looks like a strip down it is then.

BTW, this isn't an MOT failure is it? Considering main beam is working fine.

my main beam works, and while I think it might be a failure (that would need double checking) mine passed the other month......  Big Grin

According  to the MOT check list in linky it wouldn't be a fail. On top of that would a 1960's car or bike have a flash function???? Most didn't and they pass.

If it's on there i'd imagine it needs to work for an MOT.

BUT, i just read this:

"....Right, I have called up 2 MOT Testers, and both said:It is not a legal requirement (nor tested) for your highbeam flasher to work...."

You should still get your squirty stuff out and try and make it work though!

Dunno why you're worried about it, mine works but i just flick the high beam switch on the rare occasion I want to flash someone.
Can't see how it comes in to the mot, as long as the lights work

Hi Arfa,
Shouldn't be an mot failure as your main switch is working, well that's my understanding of it but someone else may have another view just to confuse you more :-P

OK, sounds good. Not going to stress for MOT then. I'll strip it down at weekend and see if I can spot anything. Need to buy some more switch cleaner, last can seemed to loose all pressure, so I had to squeeze the metal can to get some out! Pass switch springs back as it should still.

RMT1983: Thanks for the offer. I'll let you know after I've stripped the current one down.

so, I took the unit apart last night (the choke leaver fell out).  everything seemed ok as in all wires soldered in place.  Everything else works fine just the pass switch.  Looks like it is the switch, I squirted in some WD40 but no joy.
