Why, on foxeye designs - only one of two headlights on, on dipped beam?

Foxeye FZS600 Mk2 has both headlights on, on dipped beam,...so does FZS1000 Gen1,...so does Suz SV650S,...and possibly there are other bikes that have both (foxeye) headlights on, on dipped beam.
Stacked headlights are a logical design in which it makes sense if manufacturers don't want to utilise both headlight housings for dipped beam whereas foxeye designs with only one light on just look wrong,..as if one light is faulty.....and loads of bikes are designed like this  Sad..............Why?

I thought it was only boxeye that was 1 side

foxeye has both on, the boxeye doesn't. So if your foxeye only has one on....... Wink

Looked like Fazersharp gave me the answer I was looking for but he edited it out of his post for some reason. He indicated that Euro legislation might be stopping any bike with foxeye style headlights being allowed to shine both lenses together. Is that what you were saying Fazersharp?

Really just looking for confirmation that it is in fact some kind of Euro guideline/rule?
Saw on another forum chat about twin (foxeye style) dipped headlights (both lenses on) - and that from a distance the bike could be mistaken for a cars headlights hence some kind of ban on both lenses shining together. But all these reasons seem to be just hear say.
My point is that there are masses of bikes, old and new, that look like they've got a bulb blown when in fact 'one headlight on' is part of the design. Which IMO spoils the look of some really nice bikes out there.

Doesn't sound right to me to be honest.


And anyway, it's better for a bike to be mistaken for a car, rather than a car with one head light being mistaken for a bike!

No That is not what I was trying to say, and after i saw middens post with the wink I thought oh yeh its just the bulb so i edited it

When I said an EU thing I was referring to a bike like mine where the lights are dual use, left on for uk and right on for EU I modded mine to both come on - dipped but the right lens still points to the right slightly just like the left points to the left ( kerb). So the EU thing for my bike boxeye is just an easy swap for the manufacturer in that they can use the same light - fairing set for all countries left on uk - right on EU.
I am not sure about the foxeye but I think it came with both lights on and with no left or right leaning to contend with

Had a search and found another forum saying that the EU had come up with some old tosh about bikes with twin headlights looking like a car that is far away, but i can't find any evidence of that.
My bike's never failed an MOT with the headlight mod done on it.


Doesn't your bike have 2 x H4 bulbs, capable of low and high beam?
