Forks
#1
Anyone on here messed around with different internals on their non-adjustables ?

I have picked up some FZ1 forks (bent tubes so I cant just swap them over) and the plan is to change the cartridges over if possible. Anyone got any experience with doing this?

cheers

I've not done anything like what you are suggesting but I've got Ohlins fork springs & oil in mine which are supposed to be 10% stiffer and I prefer that to the standard.

I've put 10wt oil in mine (5wt standard I think) with the standard air gaps and raised the forks by 5mm through the yolks.

result is a less bouncy and much more planted front end. Dont get me wrong there is still room for improvement but for the cost I think it's worth a go.

For info I have my rear pre-load set around 20mm static sag at this time. That's not much but still rides ok and not to hard on the rear.. traction is still pretty good on all but the most rippled surface but I can deal with that if the front end is behaving itself.

Thanks for the replies.

I have not done a great deal so far as its been too damned cold in the garage, however, I have managed to undo the bottom allen bolts releasing the cartridges (and oil !), but I will have to put the forks into the triple clamps on the bike in order to get the fork tops off - they are done up tight and I cant grip the fork tube securely enough to undo them.

After taking a more in depth look at it, I will also need to raise the bars to facilitate the adjusters on the top of the forks. Apart from that, it doesnt look to difficult to do. Iyts just a matter fo getting on with it  :rolleyes will keep you posted
