Stolen: gold FZS600 in Hebden Bridge
#1
I've not even had a chance to contribute to this forum, yet my Fazer's already got nicked on Wednesday night.

Taken from Hebden Bridge, during the night, no doubt picked up into a van.

Keep an eye out, it's a gold 1999 model, about 17.5k miles on the clock. The fairing is a very slightly different tint to the rest of the bodywork as it had been refinished. Only modifications are some anodised orange levers and a black rear wheel hugger. Oh, it also has some fake carbon strips on the tank and near the ignition. Data tagged, fitted with a datatool immobiliser: the fob receiver is inside the fairing on the left. It has Maxxis tyres on at the moment, fairly new.

Fat chance of finding it, but hey, in case anyone comes across anything I thought it'd be worth a shot mentioning it.

Thanks all, ride safe and have fun!

Thats bad news, was it taken off the street or what? don't think you'll see it again unless it's been pushed away and dumped when they couldn't start it?

I bet youre wishing you never see it again though coz it'll be focced wont it.

An old fzs600 is never a made to order theft so most likely some scrotes have got their scrotey shrivelled skin on it and ragged it about for the sake of it.

Very sad.

It could be stripped down for parts i suppose but that's allot of effort for small scale profits and allot of ebay selling.

No car or bike deserves to be stolen but at least when a big value item is pinched it wont be seen again and the insurance will pay out and well that is that and folk with a high value item can afford those sort of hits....they shouldnt have to...but they can..

But stealing someones £1500 pride and joy is just the pits Sad
Easiest way to go fast........don't buy a blue bike

Thanks guys. I'm getting used to the fact I won't see a bit of it again, just to avoid being disappointed.

if some scrote has got a kick out of being a total bellend and stealing someone's stuff, then so be it. Karma will put it right, maybe. Maybe not. Doesn't matter.

I just wish I had something to ride right now (well, tomorrow, not now. I'm a bit drunk now.) Sad

Ride on!

Hi all,

So, luckily, the insurance has made me an offer based directly on the value the bike was insured for, which is £1500. I have an excess of £575 though, so that's definitely going to go down a fair bit!

Couple of questions:

Are there any other fees they're likely to slap on top of that? How much should I expect to actually get?

Also, they're after a ridiculous amount of documents before they can get the payout processed:
- Full V5;
- Copy (front and rear) of driving licence and counterpart;
- Copy of CBT certificate (if applicable);
- Current MOT (if applicable);
- Certificate of insurance;
- Details of any outstanding hire purchase;
- Original purchase receipt;
- Full service history;
- All keys (including immobiliser);
- A copy of motorcycle restriction certificate (if applicable).

That seems like a lot! Are they going to try to screw me over for not sending them absolutely all the documents? Surely they already have my licence, the insurance certificate and such? And why would they want the full service history?

The letter also says that if the vehicle is then recovered it will become the property of the underwriter and will be disposed of, but they also say that if it is recovered I should contact them directly to prevent extra costs for storage which would be my responsibility... That sounds a bit cheeky, they're basically saying "if it's found it's ours, but we won't pay for storage" -- what?!

Anyway, any help with the above much appreciated -- I'm still glad I'm not actually used to dealing with theft of my rides... Still not riding though Sad

Thanks all, ride safe!

P.S.: I've only just noticed that the images have posted upside-down. I can guarantee the bike was the right way up all the time. Wink

When I wrote off my 8 month old BT1100, I was paid out on the value of  9 month old bike, I think it was £30 less and also because I didn't replace the bike straight away I lost 4 months insurance, I got my excess back after 14 months and also the extra I had to pay for insurance, when the third party was found 100% liable for the crash. All they wanted was the full set of keys, but still took 8 weeks to get cheque from them, they said they hadn't got the keys but I sent them tracked, his excuse was they may have been delivered but hadn't got to his office? that's Carole Nash service for you.

So that seems pretty standard stuff then? I'll just send them what they want and hope they deal with it quickly. I can't afford a new bike outright so here's hoping it is quick! Undecided

There is so much insurance fraud these days, they just want to prove a few things:
the bike actually existed
you owned it
you were riding it legally
it was a runner
otherwise all they have is what you told them when you insured it. Standard stuff. Shouldn't be a problem.
