Superchips ICON race ignition computer.

Hi all,
Looking for a bit of info on this "Super Chips - ICON - Re programmable ignition computer"
I recently bought a 98 Fazer 600 and its got a few added extras, like immobilizer/scott oiler and race screen and hugger/belly pan, but under the seat i discovered the race computer?
I know nothing about it though and the info i can find online seems to be a little sketchy, I'm not a racer bit on the technical side of bikes or component electronics so was just curious.
It was hooked up until yesterday as though the bike lacked mid range power, but since i have unplugged it, it seems to have ironed out those issues and seems smoother and more like my original 98 fazer i had before.

All it does is changes the pulse of the ignition nothing special.


Ill pay postage if you don't want it, could have a fiddle see if it makes mine run better

I've used these on my car; not this model, but same principles

They advance or retard the ignition pulse through a given engine Map;
They also adjust the RPM range through the given engine Map;
They can also set the RPM limits.
..and thats it !

The box is useless without the Software that comes with it ; you also need a rolling road to acquire the engine Map and you also need the OEM cable (which has a dongle in it) to connect the box  to a serial port of a laptop - I doubt you will wheel up a PC Tower system to the bike (!!) and most laptops do not have a serial port - replaced by USB.

Unless you are on a track and want to squeeze every teeny weeny miligram of performance out of the ignition system, it is pretty useless and should be removed - road performance should be better as naturally the performance envelope has been set for race conditions and favours performance over engine longevity, MPG and so on. Take it off and charge Paul £19.99 for postage which is about £19.98 more than its worth  :lol

Edit 2: Sounds like you bought a shagged ex-racing or track bike with the engine well hammered ?? check engine compression and valves , and for blue smoke coming from the exhaust  :rollin

Cheers for the info, the bike does seem to run better with in disconnected, so maybe it was just never set up right in the first place?
The bike is in pretty good nick for a 98 model and the engine is sound, think who ever owned it before must of looked after it and like you say it could of been used on a track? but i think some of the stuff is more cosmetic and maybe the box was set up more of a rev limiter as the bike does seem to have more go in it now.
I know my last fazer I owned seemed to have more poke, but now that things been disconnected its back to its old fazer, even the sound has changed slightly, back to the Fazer whistle. if thats the best word to describe it?
Going to leave it off for the rest of the week make sure its running ok and then if it was sill ditch that thing, unless you still want it PaulFZS, but from what tweetytek said it sounds like its a lot of hassle for very little benefit.
No if only i can fix the annoying headlight vibration I will be happy.

Yeah ill take it, will see if i can sort my fzs out a little, im sure it wouldnt be too hard to re-program it with some pikey tools.
