HID conversion

Morning foccers I ve  recently got my first Frazer an so far pleased with it.
I ve found this forum a wealth of good tinkering info.
I ve done the headlight mod... Now I have 2 light... A nice improvement although still not a lot of light.
I was thinking to convert bulbs to HID ones( proper hid with ballast) for both side as I have a H1 an a H4 kit from previous bikes.

Has anyone done it? Consumption should t be an issue as normal bulbs are 55v x2, whereas HID would be 35v x2.
I don't have anything witty or funny to say. For an update check back in 2025

Or you could use nightbreaker bulbs, another improvement over standard, and stops all the faffing about and legal gamble with HID.
Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!

Stevie have you used these, are they a straight swap, and worth the money i.e. in improvement?

Had them in my gen II and they made a huge difference!

OK guys I have also a pair of H4 night breakers... I'll try those an report back. That video was interesting but at 220 euro a bit out of my budget.
I don't have anything witty or funny to say. For an update check back in 2025

I have the headlight mod and two night breakers. No issues at all. Very bright

They surely are if you get the correct bulbs. Is one a H4, and the other a H2? Can't remember off the top of my head.

I put a H1 HID conversion on my bike last night!! Wow!! What a difference!! The internal reflector cup had worked its way loose, so that also go removed!


I don't think I will ever use main beam now, the light looks so 'dirty' in colour compared to the 'clean' light produced by the HID.


The H4 HID conversion maybe next...

This had been covered so so many times in this forum and other. Some have had success at MoT time, others less so. The law covers cars only so there is a loophole but technically they are illegal as they are not factory fitted and have no levelling system, both a legal requirement. So it comes down to whether you want to chance it and how'supportive' Your MoT centre are. By the way, if an item passes an MoT then it *is*deemed to be safe and legal.... Contrary to popular belief ... From gov.uk website for motorcycles:-

An MOT certificate confirms that at the time of the test, without dismantling, the vehicle met the minimum acceptable environmental and road safety standards required by law. It does not mean that the vehicle is roadworthy for the life of the certificate. The test does not cover the condition of the engine, clutch or gearbox.

I changed just my dip beam light to HID with ballast, passed MOT no probs, lights are excellent

Have you got a link mate to the HID kit you used, please, and address of MoT centre you used. I'll take mine there.

cheers mate,

this is like the cheap kit I bought off ebay, which failed an MoT because it was not housed in a projector unit and the reflector in the stock headlight housing messes up the pattern of the HID light. So the tester claimed. Anyway it failed.

I've seen the more sophisticated projector HID mod , this I believe does pass MoT

Strange that your's passed, which is why I asked for the address; if you have a contact number I would like to speak to the tester?

Hi folks, I would suggest caution re fitting HID to a Fazer. You don't want some poor old dear getting blinded on a damp night while you are gently accelerating, and swerving into your path.
Ideally we need self-levelling headlamps as the law requires.
This would be possible, with a bit of jiggery pokery, bowden cable and careful alteration of the headlamp shell to alter headlamp azimuth with rise/fall of suspension
