sooty plugs
#1
No relation to the puppet.,
I've got soot on the plug bottom. Each cylinder.
The ground and centre electrodes are a light white milky chocolate and I was wondering whether a k&n filter might lean the mixture too much. Strange that electrodes are mikly choc (lean mixture?) Yet sooty (not a lot tho) on plug...
? What do you think?

Also, if i did replace the air filter with a k&n , would I need to sync the carbs

Cheers

Maybe just old plugs, if they're all the same they probably just need changing, light brown doesn't sound too bad to me.

Can't see why a K&N would lean your bike out but nobody else's?

Didn't you say you'd already balanced your carbs?
I would've thought they would still be okay.

Sorry...should have mentioned (making assumptions again..)

- new plugs installed yesterday and gap set to 0.75mm as the spec is 0.7 to 0.8
- carbs were (?) balanced
- K&N filter ; was just wondering whether it would help run a bit leaner but then again if the electrodes are already a light (milky hint of brown) does this not suggest to lean a mixture already. Not sure how to read this?

You balanced the carbs, so they're okay.

New plugs, and gapped, so they're okay.

New air filter, that's okay.

There is no problem?

...Except sooty plugs but I guess I'm hearing that there is no problem. Excellent. Thank you for your words of comfort

Better to be running a tiny bit rich, than too lean! Mine possibly runs a tiny bit lean with a K&N and a very free-flowing exhaust... I've just changed my plugs to keep an eye on it, but no problems after a 2500 mile trip through Europe.
