Steering problem
#1
Hey yall, my first post here. Tried to search for anyone having similiar problems but no dice. I'm probably a bit lost with the vocabulary since English is not my native lang Smile

I have myself this '99 FZS600, got about 70k in when I bought it cheap. Been working nicely after changing a bunch of consumables. Minor tweaks here and there, nothing baffling until this one.
So the problem is somewhere between the front axle and the handlebar.
The steering is off a bit so that when the handlebar is turned straight the wheel is slightly steering left:

And when the wheel is aligned straight the handlebar is turned to the right:

Not a great amount but it gets pretty annoying after a while. What I've tried so far:
-Opened the upper and lower brackets with the wheel and suspension off he ground. The fork legs rotate freely in the bracket holes as to indicate they're not bent or anything.
-Loosened the front axle bolt
-Applied careful force to the handlebar with the wheel in place

Suspension has been working allrite all along. Should I remove the fork completely to check for bends? Does this pose any danger? Any ideas?
Oh and FYI, the bike once fell on it's right side on a soft grass surface when stationary but I managed to slow down the fall a bit (and break my back at it too). Can't really say if the problem occurred before or after.
Any help's appreciated, thanks.

First off your English and vocabulary are excellent, better than some whose native tongue is English!

If loosening the yokes (upper and lower) has not solved the problem I would check to see if the handlebars are bent or not. If not then the only other thing I can think of is that the frame is bent. I really hope it's not that.
Feel the Fear and do it anyway!

Your problem seems as same as mine.
My bike also had a little steering problem, but after making some adjustments it went back to normal.
See video below for complete how-to:

Thanks for the tips dudes, the video seemed informative enough. I'm gonna tamper around with the forks a bit more and see if I can't sort it out.

Can;t be bent frame.  The issue is between bars and wheel.  There are only a few components between the two!

Not sure if you have solved it already, but i had the same problem, and loosening yokes, holding the wheel in place with the help of a friend and turning the handlebar to the side you need will make it straight again Big Grin Then tighten all again and go for a spin!! Big Grin

Shieeet.

Done all the stuff you guys advised including the ops in the video and I think I got the steering right for a while. But now the bloody thing is off again. The steering seems to persist on aligning to the right when the wheel is straight.

I double checked the fork legs and they're straight. I'm beginning to suspect that one of the legs doesn't insert correctly to the suspension and causes a jinx. Gotta take the whole fork off and inspect.
Thanks for the advice so far!
