I'm thinking of upgrading to the thou next year and I'm wondering if the older models are better like with the 600's. Would I be better finding a good old one or splash out on a newer one?
best model?

Sports - TOURING use: FZS 1000
SPORTS - Touring use: FZ1 Horses for courses really, it's down to personal preference, budget and what kind of riding you'll be doing most really. My personal preference would be buying an FZS1000, and then spending the extra money on sorting the suspension out and getting the bike Ivanised. You'd get a bike that would handle very well (not quite as good as an FZ1 as they do feel a bit heavier, but you'll not notice it a massive amount on the road), with very similar power and brakes, but also the ability to do very long distances, two up and with luggage if necessary in comfort (whilst still maintaining economy). That's mostly because I do a lot of distance riding with luggage and a pillion, and to be honest the FZ1 just isn't that comfy for some of the distances I do! That said, if i were doing track days, wanted needle sharp handling and a top end power bias and didn't care about the practicalities trade off in a smaller tank and using more petrol I'd probably buy an FZ1. Well actually, I wouldn't, I'd just go buy an R1 :lol I think the conclusion I've come to here is why DO people swap for the FZ1? :rollin

Good explanation. Think I'll look at the fzs1000 then. I have fzs600 at the minute and love everything about it. I've had several people come up and say its by far the better bike compared to the new ones so just wanted to make sure. I'm not really that sports biased. I like having a maddun sometimes but after comfort and reliability more than anything as I want to be getting out with a tent on the back and touring too.hate the word touring it makes me think of train spotters, its a bit different ramming round on a bike.

Fzs 1000 for sure then wutang. I love the effortless power of mine in the low to mid range and then the transformation into a rocket ship from 7k+.

Just last month clocked 2500 odd miles in a week and 889 miles in one day 09 FZ1 , did not feel to bad after that , so considering I am 65. Comfy enough for me better than what my Z1000SX was and that had a sargent seat.
MT-09 Tracer for those who no longer can handle a BIG boy Fazer

Try both ,Ive spent time on a gen1 1k and now own a gen2 1kn and tbh there is no comparison for me the gen 2 wins hands down everytime ,dont read any of the journo shite in the reviews about the gen 2 fueling as it is just that SHITE learn to ride it set it up properly and its as good as anything out there ,the gen 1 was and is a cracking bike as the Escort was a brilliant car but things move on

Not forgetting power differences aside- carbs give a different power experience to fuel injection- especially early Fi models, although power commanders etc can be fitted you still can't match the two, so test rides!
Some say...
