I've seen these on display. Cannot comment on how good they are, but I was also looking at the go pro.
Then I found the TCL-SVC200, and I can't say I'm disappointed so far. It cost me £100 off ebay (also was available on amazon), chinese seller, arrived in less than a week. Comes with remote, sticky-backed mount (helmet), waterproof case, car windscreen mount (cam has car mode to record 1min clips), and a handlebar mount, which is what I use mostly on the bike. One of the best reviews is on techmoan, here: http://www.techmoan.com/blog/2013/11/10/...o-far.html Even better is that because it has a tripod thread built in, you can buy little adapters to use go pro mounts! My bike already had one stuck on the screen, so once the adapters arrive, I will be able to mount cam on front of bike. Not taken any super interesting videos but a screen shot is on the topic "What did you do with your fazer today?"

can action cams be connected directly to a small monitor or mobile phone to use as like a view finder

Yes. The latest Go Pros do, but there is a delay in receiving the picture (5 seconds or so).
The Contour GPS did it, but they went bust. Some Drift cams have a built in screen and you can get a screen to go on the back of a GoPro.

I got the latest gopro back and use the app.. delays hardly noticable.. they also do a clip on touchscreen for them too for an extra 80 quid.. i upgraded from a cheap action camera and its like night and day.. get the best you can afford.

I can't seem to find them on Aldi's site. What's the model number?
Personally depending on application I would go for a Drift of some type. I know they cost a lot more but they are brilliant kit. The Go Pros are too but huge prices, and if you want to plug in an external mic you can't use the case to make it weather proof unless you want to drill it. I think Go Pros just look massive as well if you're putting it on a helmet.

In reality though you really only need the screen for making sure the camera is lined up on the road & not on the ground......then you'll be looking at the road...not the screen......so in That scenario 5 seconds isnt an issue.
Easiest way to go fast........don't buy a blue bike

I'd agree with this - I bought a cheap action cam just to see how much I'd use it and how I'd get along with it, and now am thinking of upgrading to something better, preferably with a viewfinder so I know if it's aligned properly. But it's a pity that the good ones are so expensive - the only thing delaying me from upgrading. I wouldn't want to go for one that's only slightly better, but a good quality one will have to wait awhile, which is a pity as it would have been nice to have one for a Euro trip. I'll maybe just use the cheapy I've got this year, and see if I can't afford to upgrade next year - unless anyone has one for sale? ![]()

Best advice i can give is carry plenty batterys anf memory cards.. screens tend to use more battery unless you can switch them off.. ive tried a few action cams myself and mounting can be a pain for some. Vibrations the enemy.. im looking at mounting mines with a jello killer base to reduce vibtration.

I'd like to get to a point where I can record a proper day out - the ride, the destination etc. Just a different kind of photo album for me, not intending to bore others with it all. It's funny though, I find watching my own vids interesting, but not always those of others. I've also filmed a couple of roads that I'm getting to know which helps with remembering all the corners, although bends never seem to look as tight/sharp on the camera footage. I think the main use is for recording any incidents that may occur, mostly on people's daily commutes, to use as evidence if necessary, although I don't use mine for this.

Heres another, attach the camera to the handle of an electronic fly swatter and buzz your mates
![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnTys1ZZsZ0#ws The cams are also great at capturing your holidays, way better than a snap shot. My mate filmed us last year ![]() https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeOY1m0n...1nhzM8-GbY |
