TO Split Link or not to Split Link ( New Chain kit )
#1
Just bought bought new chain and sprocket kit from Wemoto,  with front sprocket up grade 12mm.
Its a Sifam HD chain and came with a split link link, which is very easy to fit, i know most chains on todays bikes use a soft link which is rivetted on .
Back in the 80's i ran various large capacity bikes with split link running gear with no problems, and most off road riders and moto x racers still use split link for easy cleaning,  has anybody had issues ?  I'm sure Sifam would not be aloud to produce the kit if deemed unsafe .

it's a good life when your wife encourages you to go out and ride at the weekend,

in wife speak ( get out of the house )

Well my 98 600 Diversion split link failed as I was pulling off from some lights:-

Isn't the move to soft-links related more to the power of a bike and not its capacity? I'm fairly certain these bikes are supposed to use a soft-link chain and many people are likely to be along shortly to confirm Smile

I've used a split link many times on litre bikes without problems.

I do take good care of my chain though...
