Problems with Mk4 VW Golf central locking
#1
I have a Mk 4 Golf with central locking issues? I know these have a little vacuum pump in the boot. Mine is operating but i'm not sure if its running the correct vacuum?
Does anyone know of a way of checking?

Thanks,  Mickey the head scratcher

I thought the mk4 were electric? I've got an old mk3 which is vacuum and the pipes pop off where they go into the doors, hence the pump runs but doesn't operate the locks.

The car is  'Y'reg convertible, I was told it was a mk4. It's my wife's car and I only fix it.  :\  I've read loads and seen a few YouTube vids. The pump runs perfectly while turning the key and stops after A few seconds so I don't think it's a leak. If I take the pipe off the pump it keeps running and if I I put my finger over the pump inlet I can feel it sucking and the pump stops. I'm just not sure how much vacuum there should be? Only the drivers door opens.

ah that's what's know as mk3.5, don't ask!! Yes vacuum locks, have a look under the rear seat you will find a t piece, make sure its all connected, if its not that then its just a case of checking all pipes to make sure they're connected.
