after market rad guard

ive sold a after market rad guard to another foccer,pilgo,and hes having trouble fitting it,ive not fitted one of these before  :o  does it go over the original guard or is it a replacement.....if its a replacement are we going to need some sort of spacer ?...........
One, is never going to be enough.....

mine fits over original!!...removed side plates first though?..as mine wraps round!!

You just undo the 2 silver side plates (4 allen bolts) then place guard over top of the rad & insert bolts back in without the plates which are then surplus.
Easiest way to go fast........don't buy a blue bike

thanks for replies guys....is there a standard mesh guard on the front of the rad....does that stay or go ?

Got me wondering though whether different sized radiators exist as i had to bend & bash mine to death to get it to fit,the sides were too bent in to go round ends of rad & then the actual physically attached end caps of the rad itself dont sit flush with the rad mesh, they jut out towards the front wheel & this caused problems needing bendy bendy action.


But ive seen it on Cristos bike...so if same rad it should surely go straight on unless a different rad.


Have you got the cristo rad red????

left mine on!!...fit perfectly on top of original?

I didnt have an original guard.....just the weave of the rad itself ie flies & wasps stuck between the actual radiating material.,new guard just squeezed over top of the rad...strange one!

Sounds like there are different standard rads!!!! :eek


Some flush with factory mesh like crh




Some without like mine


I bet the new buyer has one like mine???

see,there's the problem im having-it appears you have the same year fazer as me,but my rad gaurd is black,not silver (ok,its more silver'ish now after scratching the fcuk out of it putting the other one over it!!  :lol  ) unless different colour bikes have different colour rad's?

it fits quite nicely over the original gaurd,but the bolt hole's dont line up at all


and red98,sadly my PC skills are as competant as my spannering work so there'll be no piccie's from me im afraid,the 2 ive put up of my bike are ones that i nicked off the site where i found my bike advertised for sale (so i can do wee bit of PC work i guess!). but thanks for starting this thread for me mate  :thumbup

Mines an 01. The chrome rad guard on mine bolts straight onto the radiator, nothing underneath. Bolt holes are elongated so no problem fitting.

Pilgo heres a pic of a standard rad on an 01


Notice the silver plate on the side of it......do you have these plates???????


Also zoom in on the radiator front...it is not a guard...it is the actual radiator itself, the woven metal radiating material straight to the atmosphere......is this like your radiator???????

1st bike though & ive learnt so much.....ill never abuse another bike as much as i have this one, saying that i have also loved & cherished it too & it kinda deserves to be treated well now & kept on the road so ill crack on with a nicer nose job at some point....cheers for yur kind fazer words crh, im owe you a pint for the positive reinforcement.

If this is one of the £24.99 jobbies from eBay then I also had issues fitting to my 600 2001 box eye fazer, it was just too tight to line up with the side plate holes, and yes I removed the side plates.


In the end I had to file out the holes on the guard to make them wider and then it just about fitted, but I was never really happy with it as it bowed out slightly, it seemed the bend in each side of the guard was not quite in the right place.


Many years ago I had a Beowulf guard fitted to a 2000 600 box eye and it fitted beautifully with no issues, I don't know whether it is the guard at fault or a change in the radiator fitted to different years, I had my suspicions it was the guard.
