Whats this noise?
#1
Hey All! So as some of you know, i'm still new to all this biking malarky. Noticed a noise after i'd turned the bike off today, what is it?

Sounds like something pressurized venting off, but have not got good speakers here,

Coolant system, any drips under the bike?
Check coolant level in thermostat housing and expansion tank

Lift the seat check the battery

Hard to tell without being there

+1 for expansion tank, see if the coolant is well over the level, or even empty.
Either way would mean a blocked system and time for the Radflush.

Lift up tank and look for any leaks too, may just be loose jubilee clips, but the expansion tank level will speak volumes.

My immediate thought was was something venting under pressure, not sure where to start though, so as above really.

Could be exhast gas building up in the crankcase. Check the breather pipe going from the crankcase to the airbox.

Assuming there's no coolant leak:

Next time it does it, see if stops if you open the petrol tank cap.

I once had a similar noise on Ducati 160 (assuming it's the something venting or sucking noise), it turned out the vent to the tank was partially blocked and it was slowly sucking air in to replace the fuel that had gone out.

Did u check the fuel vent pipes of the carbs? There's one on each side between cylinder 1&2 and one between cylinder 3&4 on the black rail of the carbs(airbox side)if there folded it causes a vacuum inside in the carb and would suck up a small amount of fuel into the carb until the vacuum is equalized,

Just my 2 cents, if not try the tank vent pipes

Hope this helps
