PC techie advice

On my C drive got a couple of folders with strange names like  279656dd18688b51ecb89.
When I click on them I get a security box saying you do not currently have access to this folder, click here to get access.

Are they legit items or should I be worried?  Virus scans have found nothing.

Typically not something I would worry about - what version of Windows are you running (inferred from your mention of the C Drive)?

I suspect they're folders created by Windows update or possibly the system restore/backup background process.  They shouldn't be there and the likelihood is that some updates failed but I shouldn't worry unduly Windows machines act strangely after a while anyway and it won't be easy to fix.

Maybe time for the two yearly rebuild (that's what I do)

For your info the folder names are based on GUID's which are supposed to be globally unique identifiers, just another way of getting a unique folder name.

Try a Google search for "c drive folder guid" if you want to do some research.  Strictly speaking it should be system drive rather than c drive but that just returns rubbish.
