Admins/Whoever (yes that means you)
Please can we have a sticky thread asking (prompting) people to put their approximate location in their profile for the member map ?
I'm sure there are loadsa foc'cers who haven't done it for privacy/security reasons (or something else) but even approximate locations are better than no location for badgering people via PM if they want to go on an informally arranged ride out :-)
Simon
Ps. I apologise if this is just me and I'll living in a parallel dimension to all you people who don't agree.
Opinions are like A**holes, Everyone has one. Some people seem to have more than one though which is a bit odd.
There's a section specifically for rideouts. Stick a post up, see who responds, arrange particulars. Et voila
Smell ones mother. Yaas!
Or as new members put up introduction threads in the intro section then welcome them and point them to the members map as someone did for me when I signed up

It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.
I think there are probably far more registered users who don't know about it compared to those who have opted to not use it

That was my hope to address with a sticky thread tbh. I seem to be in the minority :rolleyes

Don't be so crest fallen Si.
I'm certainly not opposed to having it stickied somehwere but I think that having it as part of the main top bar is better than a stiky anyway.
If you think it's a good idea then push for it, don't let two comments put you off

If I joined a forum and I didn't know the people I'd not fill my location in. I only did it afterwards when I saw how useful it could be and I put in "Market Harborough" rather than my address for security reasons (I pee off so many people I might get death threats )
I've seen loadsa new members on the forum who I _know_ are based in Leicestershire but no new pins have arrived.
A sticky thread in general and/or rideouts would prompt people who may not have seen the topic/thread to do it and could also allay any security/privacy concerns through wording.

Fair enough buddy.
I still think it can't be more obvious than where it is just under the frankenfazers back wheel

For any sort of location information I usually just zoom out of my address and wildly click somewhere that is part of the area It's close (within a mile or two) but not exact

One persons obvious is not another's. Trying to explain the 'obvious' acts of rebooting, making folders and moving icons on an ipad to my mother has taught me that something you take for granted is not the same for someone else.
Fair nuff tho. I'm used to having the opposite opinion to everyone else. :lol

I'm always careful not to say the dreaded phrase "common sense" when talking to people about fire. They say it to me as if it is common sense when really it isn't.
Try explaining BS EN 12845 to a hairdresser

As a result of this thread i checked my pin to make sure it wasn't to near my address, and i find out that another member was hiding behind my pin.
Unfortunatly he hasn't posted anything yet.

True but he/she hasn't even posted in the intro section, why would you join and not then post?

Who knows there are many lurkers in life. People that say nothing, offer nothing but just watch.

Just added mine, thought I'd done it years ago

A very good point you make Simon and Tiberius about obvious to one person and common sense etc. I just find that most people on here are pretty switched on so forget that some people find computers and common sense difficult
Anyway, on topic. An interesting point you make about someone having an account and not posting anything, not even an intro thread. If you look here: http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php?action=who then there are often people listed as "guest" and "regestiring for an account" but often they never post anything. Wonder if there is anything we can do to encourage the lurkers to join in..??
