Front Fork Suspension Upgrade

Any recommendations on the best replacement springs for a front fork suspension upgrade. Its getting a bit too soft and dives down too much for my liking. The setting is also maxed out and have fitted a Nitron NTR Sport on the back.....any suggestions are welcome.

I have just fitted a Hyperpro spring to the rear of mine and i am very impressed with it. i am very tempted to get the fork springs to match it http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hyperpro-Progr...2ec52ed1f3

I had Hyperpro fitted to my 600 before and it transformed the handling for not much money.

get some proper linear springs to suit your weight from k-tech (£85+p)
anything else is just another compromise!

Agree with linear springs, you can also fit springs from other bikes with 43 mm forks & cut spacers to suit.
Should widen your search on ebay ;-)

linear.............single rate spring matched to the weight of rider + bike. setting of sag is a pop and the suspension reacts in a uniform manner. can be a bit harsh at low speeds
progressive......bi-rate spring which has a softer initial bit then a firmer bit. you get what you're given. plusher than linear but sag is normally using up the soft bit of the spring. once you up the ante the spring shows it's limitations. iirc hyper pro use firmer initial bit and a softer hard bit.
remember that road suspension is always a compromise. if you are a spirited rider then linear, if you potter then progressive

Im more of a spirited rider so linear looks best suited for me

go here and calculate spring rate.
you'll probably need to upgrade the rear spring/shock if it's standard.

If you have the standard fork setup, you have progressives fitted already. Enough said.

Well, its not quite that simple, I've had Hyperpro suspension springs fitted in the past and they were cheap & pretty good but felt like a temporary filling instead of a permanent crown (I know, I know, bizarre analogy!)

Buy linear rate springs for 43mm forks, springs need to be twice the length of front suspension travel which is 140mm, so springs 280mm or longer with spacers cut to size would do. Or just pay over the odds & get exact Fazer 1000 springs :-D

firstly if you go cutting springs down, you then need to take the ramp off and have a decent flat seat for the spacer to sit. so the big spring needs at least another 5mm.
then you fuck about grinding it down which messes with the tensile properties of the spring on the grind.........so buy a proper spring, or if you're a fat bastard you can buy my 1kg/mm ktechs.

I'm not talking about cutting the springs down, I'm talking about the option of buying springs that are not the same length as the standard fazer's springs, then cutting appropriate length spacers so they match the standard setup dimensions inside the Fazer's forks

My last foray into ebay got 1.0kg/mm 43 mm fork springs from an Aprilia RSV4 for £20....beats the sh1t outta buying springs new for £100 from most suspension companies

I'm 17 stone 6'3" and have the Nitron rear shock set to suit my size....which is big boned BTW.  :finger

As 1kg springs is correct for me, how much do you want and how old, condition etc etc
