Hi all, I was a member of the old FOCU site but I just re registered at this new one (good job btw).
Anyway a few weeks ago I went into the back of somebody at a junction at about 10 - 15 miles an hour. I only have third party, fire and theft for money saving purposes (never again). After I hit the car,the bike went down heavily to the right causing more damage.
I live in Bristol and I asked Bristol Kawasaki to give me a quote for parts which came to £1822, not including labour. However, they just gave me a long list of expensive parts needed (see below).

I asked them if they knew a breakers that might be interested who offered between £200 - £250. The bike milage is around only around 18,000 miles.
I'm not mechanically minded and have no idea about ordering 2nd hand/aftermarket parts and fitting them. I'm hoping I won't need to replace all these things, and the ones that do can be sourced second hand.
I really don't want to lose this bike but I have no mechanic/biker mates to ask for help. I have a car to see me through the winter so am not in any urgent need to get it repaired. Is there anyone out there willing to help me get this lovely bike back on the road at an affordable price?

someone's breaking a 600 in the for sale section so get over there quick. most of that looks like handy bolt on type stuff but your post doesn't really indicate what damage has been done to the bike. have you got a pics of the bike as it stands now?
Post a few pictures of the damage, many of the parts listed are available second hand. Fazerspares in Bristol have many good quality spares. There are plenty on Ebay also. If you post the pictures many here can give good advice.
Thay have included the top and bottom yolk, did they check the frame. Generally the frame is fairly tough and a 10 to 15 mph is unlikely to twist it as the forks are soft enough to take the shock and bend with out transferring it to the frame.
Hey mike, sorry to hear about the crash but the main thing is you are still biking,
I wonder have you had any thought how long youd likely keep the fazer?, if the fazer is the bike for you then you could always buy another one coz theres some real bargains out there, say 1000 quid area, then keep the damaged bike for all your future spares needs,i know it's expensive now but could save you money over the course of the bikes life,
Ive been toying with the idea because i cant see me ever getting rid of the fazer,
Depending on what you come up with i may even be prepared to give you a little bit more than what the breakers offer you but id need to check what parts are the same on the 98-99 and my 01 and also depending how good your bike is etc, its another option anyway.
Easiest way to go fast........don't buy a blue bike
You should be able to acquire everything you need for about a third of the price Fowlers are quoting.
Things like the exhaust can, fairing, steering head bearings are readily available from aftermarket manufacturers for a fraction of the OEM price. The rest you should be able to pick up second-hand, I see there's a complete upper/lower yoke listed on Ebay at £34 right now, for example.
Intact front forks will take a while to find, but they do come up from time to time and it's not like you'll be missing a lot of great biking weather for the next 4 months.
If there isn't a local, mechanically competent foccer you can persuade to help you get the bike back together with a promise of food and beer, you can always ask your local dealer to do the job... so long as the parts you supply are clean and undamaged they won't object.
Even if you could get the parts cheaper, you'd still be spending, say 4 - 500 quid on bits with all that damage. Labour adds more and is usually the killer. Please do post pictures as this will help assess the damage. The upper fairing may be repairable if it's just cracked, saving quite a bit.
The other option is to buy a year 2000 fazer for around a grand and sell yours for scrap. You'll end up spending the same overall i'd guess. To be honest i'd go for this option, unless the damage is light.

Thanks a lot for for all your reply's, it's reassuring to hear that a lot of money can be saved on second hand parts.
There's no frame damage. Updated post with pics:
Steering stopper broken, where my finger is pointing.
Closer pic.
Something looks missing from the centre stand, i don't remember it looking like that.
Bent Forks.
A couple of holes in the exhaust.
half the things that yamaha dealers have quoted you for ,you dont really need replaced anyway cos alot of it is cosmetic, like the end bars ,ect, ect
get a few prices from links on here for breakers for the obvious essentials, i.e fairing , forks but if it was me ,- i could live with a scratched end bar ,cam cover ect,
you could be back on the road for £500 ,and your bike has done such low mileage it would be a sin to use it for spares (my opinion only )

All that you have shown is easily repairable
Fender and fairing are easily repairable by a competent panel beater using plastic welding and repainting.
Indicator is just pushed in and is a common problem on any fazer that falls over.
Forks look like they can be straightened easily by a good machine shop. It is wise to give the machine shop the forks, yolks and wheel spindle to ensure they all line up. Stop can be welded when all the above are off. You probable may not need frok seals if your lucky.
The bar end is cosmetic and if necessary can be painted.
The only things you definetly need to buy are the brake lever and mirror.
Stand is fine the sloped bit at the front is normal
Hole in Exhaust is a drain hole and is on all fazers
As Phillywilly says should cost around the 500 mark
Back on topic you look like you've had a touch of luck as most of that looks cosmetic and you've got plenty of time to sort it out. Glad to hear you've not been put off biking by this.

I was expecting to see pictures of a much more badly damaged bike than you have there. Judging by the list of spares Kawasaki Bristol thought necessary I can only assume they hoped to persuade you to accept a measly sum in part exchange for a new ZX-6R or something.
I agree with pretty much everything that's been said already, with the possible exception of the centrestand. It looks to me as if it's lost most of the foot on the right hand side which will make it harder to use because the bike will tend to tip away from you.
I can't believe that they wanted to charge for a new exhaust, professionals so they must have known that was a drain hole I got 3 on mine or maybe 2, on the can and connector pipe.
Just bookmarked that Fazer spares site as well can't believe the price of some of it on there.
Thanks all for your replies, and thanks unfazed for uploading that pic of the centre stand, mine's exactly the same so that's good news.
Thanks for the link to Ace of Sprays John, i think i'll try and source second hand fairings though as it might be the cheaper option?
I think it would be a wise idea to find a machine shop to get the forks, yolks and wheel aligned like unfazed recommended, are there any places in or near Bristol that come recommended?
I was told that the muffler was damaged, but i'll give them a ring tomorrow and find out exactly what it was they found wrong.
As much as i'd like a ZX6R, i love this bike too much :rolleyes
Your welcome Mike, I cannot understand why Bristol Kawasaki choose to let you think the bike could not be repaired at a reasonable cost, it looks like an insurance quote to financially write of the bike. Appears to me to be an ulterior motive for trying to convince you to sell the bike cheaply to them or a known breaker. Judging by the pictures you have posted, the bike is exceptionally clean. Looks like it is garaged and has not seen much bad weather.
Most bikes have front end damage and the fairing takes the impact even if they fall over therefore making good second hand fairings as rare as hens teeth. Post a picture of the right hand side of the bike focusing on the exhaust. Usually there are scuff marks consistant with a fall on the right side. At the moment there are 5 standard exhausts available on Ebay (3 look in excellent condition) ranging in price from £20 to £70
Maybe it is time to buy a manual, some basic tools and a torque wrench and strip the bike yourself. You could get some help to put it back together
Maybe there are some Foccers in or around Bristol who are more helful than Bristol Kawasaki.
