Wanted - Big Tourer
#1
Hi All,

I'm fed up with getting a numb arse on my 51 plate fazer 1000.

Does anyone have something like a Pan European / FJR1300 / BMW RT/K/GSA to swap for it?

The fazer has had a full service, new chain, sprockets and Scotoiler, nearly new tyres, new EXUP valve cables and freed off and refurbished valve.  The fork seals have been replaced and new oil and the forks set up.  The headlights have been modified to come on both together  (common mod).  Its MOT'd until May next year.

The mainstand and the sidestand have been de-rusted, holes welded up and repainted.

I can see no signs of it being dropped.

Its a 51 plate.  It has a full service history (although not all main dealer) and has around 41,000 miles on the clock.  (I use it so it goes up a bit).

I agree, changing the seat for something more touring-oriented would be a few £££ but still a far cheaper option than a touring bike. Either that or try something like an Airhawk pad?

Did 685 miles in 1 day on the Fazer1000 a coupla weekends ago.
No sore arse. But right wrist was a little arthritic having to hold the throttle open throughout.
Did 850 miles in 2 days on the 'wing - me arse was cripplin' me!! No sore arthritic wrist 'cos the cruise control's brill.
Reason being that on the tourer I was sat too long, pinned in the one position, (Ever tried a 'wing saddle?)  while the Fazer allows you to switch cheeks side to side when motoring.
Reckon Topcat, that you're just lookin' for a change and saddle soreness is just the excuse you need.  I can see where you're coming from, but even on a standard seat, I reckon the Fazer's one of the most comfy (and fast) bikes I've ever owned. Even so, I'm after changing too myself, just for changes sake (which I may regret) but if no takers over approach to winter, I'm gonna go for full Maxton and more on the Fazer.  :lol
Are they Metz4's on your bike?  :eek  :rolleyes

Yep - I guess I do want a change.  I must admit I find it boring after my last bike (R1200 GSA), its so clinical and has no character.  I struggle with the numb arse and a few hundred quid for a saddle is a lot to spend if it does not work.  I find it buzzy and vibey compared with the boxer twin.  I find the screen noisy and want better protection - so again another chunk of money to try something that may not work.

My preference is to try and do a straight swap for a bike which has been built with the extra comfort for touring and not try to make what's not a tourer into one.

Haha Tom, looking at it another way, it's a Wolf in sheeps clothing mate and if you want clean air and barn door protection, then you want a 'wing like mine, nothing else will do.  I'm considering an adventure bike myself, like the 12GSA in partic, so think you've helped me confirm I've gotta sell mine too.  Mine's up for sale on here too.  But if it don't go, I won't be sorry, it does so much for me.

Try www.ukgser.com - a really helpful forum with character and plenty of bikes for sale.

I don't think it's the tyres - I think it's the type of bike it is.  The 600 I had was fab but that was my first bike and it was ideal.

You'll either love or hate the GSA - its a real marmite bike.  First time I road one the smile never went.

Aye, was a 'subscriber' on that forum once meself, was considering a GSA as I said. (still am too)  No subscription fees on here at all though as you've found out, all advice from us characters AND advertising for your bike is lovingly given FREE. Unlike UKGSER.  Seriously though, most on here, myself included, junked the Metz4's as soon as...... they're the worst tyres for the bike....ever.  But if your minds made up...... best of luck with the search for your new scoot.

Ditto.

I've had my FZS1000 since last March and initially I loved it. Over the last few thousand miles however, the inevitable comparisons are creeping in. There's nothing wrong with the bike it's great all rounder, but like any all rounder compromises are present. I've owned several boxer twins, Triumph triples etc and in comparison to those (or even the Bandit 1200) the Fazer is a bit bland, buzzy and somewhat clinical. It's probably a better bike than all of them on paper, but somehow much less endearing.

I've come to accept that it's no fault of the Fazer though as it's a cracking bike, I just prefer the engine characteristics of a twin or a triple over those of a four so it's down to personal preference. Lesson learned for me, so it sounds like two of us will be leaving the fold in the near future.  Smile

The size of my arse is not the problem - already big enough :-)

Hopefully next year I'm getting an airhawk seat and having the seat modded to accomodate it, not just sat on top of it.
